Toyota is a Japanese company.
Re: Tales of Home [4]
Yeah but they take all the interesting bits out of their cars. like gears and proper steering, for the US market, then make the interiors out of crap cheap plastics.

I assume that they just looked at previous US car manufacturing and just assumed that was how you liked your cars

Hey, we can't all have had brushes with fascism, which I believe is defined as "a political and economic system geared towards losing wars and making great cars".

I believe the Aston Martin the DB7 the Atom and of course the mini belie that claim!

Youll never have trouble parking and they can fair rattle along, hell you can rally the little buggers-
You'd be dead in a ditch after the first corner in a US car.

Stepping away from the car talk for just a moment.
Shouldn't this thread have told you already that snow is not a laughing matter for fjordlandians.
Another video? Nice.
So is that Leopolds protest video against "båndtvang"? He certainly has it in for the thing.
halfwise wrote:Actually Norc, I was a little disappointed in the video. I thought you were going to jump in a snow drift, slide down a hill, reach in a snow drift and pull out Leopold...or something entertaining like that.

yeah, he's adorable but when he starts doing that it's almost impossible to make him stop.. :S
Re: Tales of Home [4]
So rewatched the first video again as well, thoroughly enjoyable.
"Creek; creek; creek."
It has gotten rather wintery around here as well of late, and it's actually been semi snowing all day. So my insurmountable envy might have dropped somewhat.
My view actually turned downright christmassy today:

Re: Tales of Home [4]
Yeah, I saw that on the weather report.
I think I might stay off complaining about the weather for at least the next week, if you are getting that amount of rain. Well, unless we get rain as well that is. Which isn't all that unlikely.

Re: Tales of Home [4]
Hopefully it will be great again by Christmas. And then you might actually have the time to get out and about in it as well.
That's what I tell myself anyway.
Is this the sort of thing you meant when you were talking about the buses?
http://www.nrk.no/nordland/isglatt-fore-i-nordland-1.11408240
Edit:
This was more what you were talking about I guess.
http://www.nrk.no/nordnytt/nok-en-buss-fikk-problemer-1.10885774
That does look rather scary.
Though I'm loving the language in both videos.

Re: Tales of Home [4]
I was afraid that the snow would melt quickly, but instead we got more today. Unfortunately that meant I had to drive through the snow to get to work. Fortunately the snow didn't start until 6:30, which is about the same time I leave, so it hadn't layered much on the already-plowed roads. And by the time I left work, most of the roads had been re-plowed.
Re: Tales of Home [4]
From your comment about language I hoped when I watched them I'd hear some good Nordic swearing. Maybe it was in the writing: written Fjordlandian always looks like swearing to me.

Re: Tales of Home [4]
Oh, there was certainly some swearing in Norcs dialect in both the videos in the second link Halfwise.
In the first one by the bus driver and in the second one where the bus comes sliding backwards towards the guys car. It's a colorful language if you know what the words mean. Though it's maybe not as exuberant as one could expect.
That looked damned scary, by the way. The bus driver did some job just keeping it on the road.

Re: Tales of Home [4]
you're spot on in those videos blue it's that much ice..plus a bit of water on top.. no gravel/sand..
Re: Tales of Home [4]
Well, I wouldn't be the first to jump on a bus in Tromsø then. It must be a bit frustrating when you have to to use them.
I hope none of those hills are on your everyday route.
