Tales of Home [5] Empty Tales of Home [5]

Post by Mrs Figg Mon Apr 14, 2014 9:50 pm

but interviews over the phone are more democratic. They are not going off appearances but your actual words and ideas. All it takes in an interview face to face is wear the wrong coloured tassels glued to your nips, and you are screwed. well thats what I have found anyway.  Shrugging

But the interaction doesn't feel real, hence you don't present yourself fairly.  I'm much better in front of people then over the phone, which to me is no better than talking through a hole in the wall.  I hate it with a passion, and I know I'm not the only one who doesn't come across the same.

And as I've said, it often gives the wrong impression.  People I couldn't stand over the phone were fine in person when I met them, and vice versa.  I just don't trust phone interviews. But some people are fine with them.

Seeing we're being thoughtful, I can't escape the thought that you might be screwed even if you wore the right tassels, Mrs Figg.

texting and sms-ing has killed the art of good Telephone manners. The art is when you talk, smile, as though you are actually with someone face to face, that smile is subconsciously seen by the person listening, its a fact, try it, do an experiment ask a friend to ring you twice once while you are smile talking and once with a straight face, dont tell them which is which and ask them which time they felt you were being more charming and friendly, obviously to make it scientific you have to say the same things, maybe a small phrase, anyway it works for interviews.

Smashing pics Petty ! I show my friend your pics when he calls in. His family come from near your neck of the woods, & as a child my friend had to go to boarding school there, (he hated it, said it was like a prison !) His father was a Colonel in the Black watch no less ! I must get my friend to open up a bit more about his early life, sounds interesting, especially when he gives little hints at the brown nosed snobs he went to school with !  Laughing
Anyhow, I took this photo just about a week ago, went back there today & the council have chopped down this beautiful tree, branch, stump & root ! I was gobsmacked ! glad I got a snappy when I did !

I hope there was  a damn good reason to chop it down, probably stood there a couple hundred years or more  Mad

And yeah, posh Scottish boarding schools have a reputation for harsh unforgiving regimes.

Yeah, probably some dumbasss council worker didnt like the fact that this majestic, beautiful tree,  (going by the sheer size of it tells its been there 100's of YEARS!) shaded his sandwiches at lunch time so, nothing for it but,......The chop ! I love trees & it fair broke my heart to see a big, empty, LIGHT, space   Mad  Mad  Mad

This gives an idea of the size of that gorgeous tree, a piece of it is just peeping in the left hand side.  it was pretty grand............when it was alive  Sad

That makes sense. Scientists who study smiles (smilists?) have found that forcing yourself to smile actually puts you in a better mood. I can see how it would be apparent even just through tone of voice.
