35 meters long, 8 m wide. Hopefully a nice American will come along and translate the measurements into football fields, tennis courts or bottles of coca cola.

I like what you've done there!
Love those little boats Norc- we had something very similar here too (probably share a design ancestry I would imagine) and yes they would be perfect for Laketown I think.

Re: News from the set [2]
they may be tall and narrow like in Venice but Venetian houses are not made from wood nor are they shaped like the set pictures they are square and cube like and made from stone, they also dont have the dragonish water spout thingies on the ends of the rooves.

yeah, but the are in woods
the boats in the pictures are built the same way as vikingboats, though with no dragon heads and shields as they are for fishing, not fighting

Very impressive! That's 140 bottles of Mexican Coca Cola, or 2 full rolls of toilet paper if you prefer.

A Viking theme? Could work, as long as we don't see any Viking hats!

I'm excited to see it, though with a growing sense of dread. I keep telling myself it can't be as bad as the rumors.

Re: News from the set [2]
The boat is launched, yet not officially because the head is still missing and they have that.. erm..sail left.
Re: News from the set [2]
Do we have a rough idea even of when the new trailer is out?

Re: News from the set [2]
Not sure if this was posted yet (I haven't been reading everything while I've been out of town), but the TORn apologists are hard at work trying to spin everything that Billy Connolly has been saying about Dain into the most positive possible light.
http://www.theonering.net/torwp/2012/06/18/57504-analysing-billy-connollys-dain-ironfoot/
My favorite part(s) is how they speculate that Dain might be a berserker (with absolutely no evidence other than that he had a reputation for strength and skill on a battlefield) but conclude by saying that he was a wise leader and his wisdom should be reflected in the film. Also, apparently some people took my half-joking question about pigs in Scandinavian mythology seriously, because they're trotting out the old "if Tolkien was inspired by this mythology, then including anything from it is fair game" argument again. Anything to make PJ look better.
TORn, you are adorable. Don't ever change.
NB I notice that they also remember Leroy, the pig with massive balls, so at least I'm not alone in that.

Hmm, and to add to that, I'll note that my conversation with Darkstone included...
[incidentally I didn't answer the following question 'why not?' specifically, as instructed by Sharrasi]

Elthir wrote: Take your example of someone riding a rabbit for instance -- Jackson could have Bilbo escape some situation by jumping on an unusually large rabbit and riding it to safety. That's generally an unnatural animal activity too. Would you be happy with such an injection (even if it could be shown that Tolkien was familiar with this)?
Darkstone responded: Any objection would be based on "Hey, it didn't happen in the book!" Then again, if the situation was non-book like, say, Bilbo escaping from Dol Guldur, then why not?
Elthir wrote: Or what about Radagast himself riding a large hare instead of a sledge pulled by hares?
Darkstone responded: Personally I'd say six of one, half a dozen of the other. I note another fanciful possibility is "master of shapes" Radagast himself turning into a giant hare! (And rescuing Bilbo from Dol Guldur by carrying him away on his back!)

Re: News from the set [2]
you know what, I am very tempted to go to TORN and just talk bullshit and plant scary thoughts in their heads. Manipulate. cause they are so adorable xD
Re: News from the set
I think it's rather endearing. They can't see the writing on the wall, so they do their very best to rationalize it. Makes sense. I don't agree with their reasoning much at all, but there it is.
I wonder if they're near the bottom of the barrel of excuses; if they're making reference to obscure Norse mythology as justification, they have to be close.
