I wonder if the 48fps vs 60fps debate will split advocates of higher frame rates and make it harder to adopt them in the long run. PJ says that the difference between 48 and 60 is negligible but perhaps James Camreon disagrees -- or just wants to keep being a trailblazer. I'm not sure I'd mourn the non-adoption of higher frame rates if that happens, though I'm still waiting to actually see them in action in The Hobbit.

I think there will come a time where 48 or 60 fps will be too much. Yes, it'll look more realistic, but remember, there is a limit to how much information a brain can take in and sort out. for instance, you don't remember in detail, every smell, sound EVERYTHING!, you've done in a day because the brain sort out the non-important stuff. If it is a movie, I don't think the brain will cope and it'll look messy. At least 12 fps tells you what to focus on.

Billy Connolly from an interview with the NZHerald.

"What an experience," he says of filming The Hobbit. "It's a huge undertaking. It's like a war."
He says as a dwarf, he's doing a lot of fighting.
"I hate them all. Kill them all, the bastards. Especially elves," he says.
"Get right in among the elves, but they're the most beautiful of them all.
"Blonde hair, braided and they're all slimmy and extremely tall.
"And we're very broad and low and f****n 'Have that' with our axes and they've got their skinny swords and all that."

'Blonde hair, braided and they're all slimmy and extremely tall.'

I'll assume a woman is meant, if any one person, but it's not certain (noting blonde versus blond).

Not sure if this has been posted yet, but apparently the "trailer #2" we've been anticipating is actually just a cut-down version of the first trailer and does not include any new footage. It was apparently re-edited so it would be suitable to be shown in front of Brave (as was speculated), which is rated PG. TH is pretty much a lock for a PJ-13 rating.

http://www.theonering.net/torwp/2012/06/21/57583-confirmation-hobbit-trailer-2-not-new-material/

I hope we'll get new material sometime in mid-July when Comic-Con and The Dark Knight Rises, WB's big movie of the summer, both hit.

I wonder if Billy Connolly's repeated elf-bashing in interviews is just for fun/publicity or if they're going to have actual fighting between dwarves and elves at the Battle of the Five Armies. IIRC that would mean changing the events there, though it could potentially boil down to a fairly minor tweaking of the timeline.

I reckon PJ is going to alter it so the dwarves and elves are actually in the middle of a big battle before they join forces. Mad

There's sure to be a second trailer, and possibly a third as well. I still think Comic-Con is when we're most likely to see all-new footage. It's from July 12-15 this year. Warner Bros. has already booked a three hour panel for Saturday, July 14. That's when The Hobbit is most likely to come up. Smile
