Haha, that made me smile.
(I agree though, let's not tell the non-fjordlandians. They'll only think us crazy (again.) )

Re: Tales of Home [4]
I don't really have any problems with the cold, though I don't think I really have a problem with the heat either.
At least the minimum of heat we get around here. It should be said though that one only have to travel to Central Europe to see a quite dramatic increase in it. Not to talk of Southern Europe or places even closer to the equator.
So I guess someone living somewhere else might have a different opinion.

Supisingly warm and versatile a full kilt with full plaid.
The socks go the knee and are very thick wool and the kilt comes down to the knee (you can always lower it in bad weather to the ankles), and if there a draught you can use the shoulder plaid to tuck round between the legs (ok it looks like a giant tartan nappy if you do that but if your concerned about how you look it aint cold enough!). The plaid a proper kilt is made from is pretty sizeable.
I had a feeling I had heard the real kilt was kind of like a real toga, as in about three times the size of a person.
And "plaid" is a fjordlandian word as well by the way.

Re: Tales of Home [4]
We share a lot of words and a lot of names Blue Im always surprised by it- some Scottish surnames are also from Norse roots- Mac in Scottish means 'son of' so MacDonald is son of Donald. Another example is Macleod- son of Leod, thought to be derived from the Old Norse Ljotr, meaning ugly- so I assume the founding Chief wasnt a looker!

No its not, I didnt word my post clearly enough- the Mac part is gaelic, but there are quite a few clan names of the later period where the second part of the name as a Norse root.
It seems some of the Norse who came here eventually set up along the lines of the existing system and became themselves Head of a Clan. Like the Macleods.

Re: Tales of Home [4]
Well, I'm glad you guys liked it.
Not sure I have that much to weigh in with on the God/Santa debate though.
That's always a bit of a danger isn't it. As if you turn it of and let it get to below 15 you'll probably get a cold and if you leave it on and let it reach 30 you just end up gasping for air.
So a bit of an artform, I guess.
(Which I'm sure you're an expert at usually. )
It being too warm somehow always seem worse, except for the danger of getting a sore throat if it's too cold.

Re: Tales of Home [4]
i like my room to be around 13-15 degrees when i sleep, so 30 is a bit much... but just casually hanging around in my room, then i'd like it to be room-tempered not having to sit under a blanket etc.. (that would be 20-23)

Neither do we really... but we give it a go anyway.
Re: Tales of Home [4]
I like to have my bedroom window open all night, what ever time of the year. I get night time hay fever if I dont & wake up feeling like shit. Plus the cats spend half the night jumping in & out without waking me up. Id love a "cat flap" as I AM ground floor flat but, there's nowhere to put one only in the huge patio doors & they are double glazed.

Re: Tales of Home [4]
God- depicted as an older man with a big white beard.
Santa- Older man with big white beard.
God- Watches you all the time and judges your behaviour.
Santa- Watches you all the time and judges if you've been good or bad.
God- Can perform impossible acts like creting the universe in six days or turning a couple of quids worth of food into enough to feed a multitude (youd think he give Africa someone like that).
Santa- Flies around the world in one night on a flying sleigh pulled by flying reindeer.
Gods catchphrase- 'worship me or suffer eternal damnation'
Santa- Ho, ho, ho.
So on balance if I had to worship a fictitious character I'd prefer Santa, he's cheerier and seems a nicer sort of person (and he brings presents too)
