Re: Tales of Home [3]
Glancing at the TV listings on NBC's website, I guess all the games are on Saturday? Either that or NBC is delaying their broadcast. All their broadcasts seem to start at 10 AM Eastern time, though, which is a bit early for me to be up on a Saturday.Pettytyrant101 wrote:Only four games I'd say were worth watching out for this weekend coming Eldo looking at the fixtures-

This is all so blatantly untrue, I had my annual buckie bath only last.., what year is this again?

I thought Scotshobbits just slather themselves in Haggis fat and then stand under a wind turbine until solid, whittle down the layer in Summer and build it up again for Winter? no bathing needed.

Thats only in the far north of the Highlands Mrs Figg, where the buckie is too expensive to bring in that you can't waste it bathing.
Here though its a buckie bath and a scrub down with a brillo pad.
And we'd never waste Haggis fat like that, not when we could be deep frying something in it.

Battered preferably. The only other acceptable way is mashed, but then by law it must be served with either mince and tatties (also mashed) or Haggis (chips are optional- in either case)

Re: Tales of Home [3]
a friend of mine just uploaded this video of the boat "Salarøy". i've been sailing on that too, but not in that weather. this was the normal fishing boat all the way into the late 1900, maybe as dar as the 40-50s

Cool vid by the way! I'd love to learn how to sail. Growing up on the countryside I never learned it.

Only needs a dragon head on the bow, and they'll be ready to set sail to plunder and pillage

Re: Tales of Home [3]
it's important to be wearing proper viking type clothing when sailing that boat.
Just out of curiousity, does Fyordlandian really need all those dots and crosses and circles used to mess up a perfectly good alphabet? Don't you know to pronounce something different if it's not in english, or do you actually have more sounds so the need for more symbols?

Re: Tales of Home [3]
See, we've got more sounds than letters; we just learn which sound to pronounce for each word. Not sure if that's a better system - would two different words otherwise be spelled the same but one just has doohickies sprinkled on top of it?

If you could hear the tortured contortions that Fjordlandians routinely put their poor vowels through, you wouldn't eve have to ask....halfwise wrote:

Re: Tales of Home [3]
*facepalm*.. ringo? please?
ok.. it is actually A LOT SIMPLER than english.
A is always as in british "can't" (except when it is two of them AA (old writing-way) and it is pronounced as Å)
E is always pronounced as in "Elephant". never anything els.
I as in ee in "evening"
O as either an Å as in "Aragorn" or an O as in "Nemo" but that's a bad example. just make our mouth in an O-shape and make a sound. no diphthong.
U as in "oooh, look at that"
Æ as in american "ass" or "amature"
Ø as in "tough" or "rough"
Å as in "always"
and you're vowels are just all over the place. or as we say. Åll åover the pleis.

Re: Tales of Home [3]
Do you not have a vowel to represented the English "I" sound (e.g., high, eye, fly)?

When I take a dip in my thong, I only go "aiieeeaiaiai" if the water is really cold.Norc wrote:because it is not a vowel sound. is a diphthong. we say AI, A+I. AAAEEE
