I think, looking at these new pics, that I've worked out what it is that's wrong with PJ's version of the Shire. Its the gardens, or lack of them.
Everything looks equally overgrown, the turf roof of Bag End, the slope of the Hill and the garden of Bag End look just as overgrown as each other. The gardens should be pristine, mowed laws, trimmed edges and hedges etc.

Pj seems to have put on weight in that last picture. Sad Nice cardi though. No problems with the photos themselves, so that's probably due to the fact that i'm an unimaginative so and so.

Andy Serkis broke the news during an interview with IGN.com as he was commenting on his time as an actor and second unit director for The Hobbit films, saying “There will be a trailer fairly soon, actually. Around Christmas time, I believe… It’s just around the corner.”

Welcome back Chris- you had me worried there for aw awhile I thought you'd been involvoed in a buckie induced accident following Man City's win over (complete gubbing of) Man Utd!

Three generations of gardeners (at least) have 'maintained' the Bag End gardens, judging from PJ's version they must have been generation after generation of workdodging skivvers!

News from the set - Page 19 Empty that nice Mr jackson

Post by Mrs Figg Wed Nov 16, 2011 6:43 pm

I do hope that nice Mr Jackson will give us a lovely trailer soon, I was thinking this as I was deworming Mr Nibbs, thinking of that yucky squirming thingy inside Nibbses tummy got me wondering about unpleasant surprises, because I heard that this newfangled 48 whatsit will make everything look like a nasty video, rather than a film, if you get my drift, well oldies like me find it all rather confusing so maybe one of you younguns can put me mind at rest.

Oldie like me are perpetually at suffering due to worm-churning PJ-fearing pain, Mrs Figg. Sad

(And I am so sorry hear bout your poor pussy - Mr Nibbs, you say? - for no one likes the idea of a pussy with even one worm in it, least of all several at one time! No )

(Umm... I am "young at heart" so I hope you don't mind me offering my opinions here, Mrs Figg! Very Happy )

Post by Pettytyrant101 Fri Nov 18, 2011 4:03 pm

Shock news. Sir Ian updates his blog!!! Shocked

The only bit however pertaining to TH is as follows;

Musings during a long wait today, which has been a respite from a lot of fighting in Middle-earth. In The Hobbit, Gandalf is part old duffer but more he's a soldier. Peter Jackson, who likes to see the old guys fighting it out, reminded me the other day that Gandalf is a commander, a general. Having slain the Great Goblin I was being a bit too indulgent with the dwarves who meanwhile had mislaid Bilbo in the goblin tunnels. I've played enough soldiers to see that PJ was right and in the next take I was very stern.

With this accompanying pic:

Post by Eldorion Fri Nov 18, 2011 8:15 pm

I've thought about that comment a bit since I first saw it the other day, and I'm not sure how I feel about it. On the one hand, Gandalf is clearly the principle strategist behind the defeat of Sauron in the books, and the Quest of Erebor in The Hobbit is part of that strategy, even if we as readers don't know that before reading LOTR. On the other hand, Gandalf's role in Middle-earth is supposed to be that of an advisor and guide, not a direct military commander. I suppose this idea fits in with the role he had in the LOTR movies, though.
