I'm cautious about "the attention it deserves." You can never tell til you see the final edit.
For all I know it may end up being another story on "mad americans" that they trot out when they need something amusing on a bad news day.
(Not horrible actually. I'd definitely share that story too.)

what a great place to live for a kid!
Head of the Holy Loch, this huge sandy area you get at low tide is one of the possible reasons given for the name of the local village I grew up in, Sandbank. The story being in stormy weather ships used to anchor there in the sheltered waters and wait them out, and whilst there any communication sent from the ships would be marked as 'from the Sandbank'.
Took this one with you in mind, Dave.
The Holy Loch, at Sandbank now looking back towards the head of the lochs and those sandbanks from before. This was my stomping ground as a kid and where the US Navy base was located. That pier is all that is left of it now.
The Sandbank War Memorial. Known locally just as The Point. We used to go swimming here as kids and my Gran, who likewise swam there as a child and loved it there and took my brother and I swimming there, requested her ashes be scattered on the beach there at low tide. I always think of her when I go by and smile at happy memories.

I hate good weather there are too many photo opportunities and not enough time!
Anyway grabbed these this morning on the way to the hairdressers (my better half insists I get more than 1 haircut in a year! ) That's twice I have to open my sporran now when if I just wait long enough nature seems determined to relieve me of it anyway! . And worse, she has scuppered my childhood ambition to let my eyebrows grow really big and bushy like Gandalfs so I can display my full crabbit at the world by bristling them at it! I don't understand the fairer sex, what's not to like about that! Anyway where was I? Oh yes, pictures! }}

I like the seaweed pics. Very fast camera to capture drops in motion. And a good lens to zoom up that close to a seagull(?) from what I have to assume was a safe distance.

Re: Tales of Home [9]
{{{ The seaweed pictures are using the macro setting on the zoom lens combined with a very fast shutter speed.
The seagull was actually close enough to me (within 10feet) that I could use the macro setting for it too just to see what would happen.
The zoom is pretty good. If you look at the first picture in the last post I made, the one with the building and land silhouetted against the sky, now look at the picture immediately below that taken with the normal lens, see that distance set of hills way off in the distance on the far side of the River Clyde? Go in about a fifth of the way into the picture from the right hand side and that buildings about there on top of that hill. }}

{{ Thanks Figg. The cones on statues is a bit of a Glasgow thing, especially the Duke of Wellington one - if you visit chances are you'll find at least one statue somewhere adorned in such a fashion. The Council take them down, every week drunks climb back up them and plonk a new one. Its sort of expected now its being going on decades. }}

Re: Tales of Home [9]
{{ Well this is proving a spooky night at work! Something kept tripping the hotels external lights. Suspecting an animal of some sort and in the hope of an interesting picture I took my camera outside, only to start feeling very odd almost immediately.
I then noticed a pair of bright gold glowing eyes staring at me from the bushes! Now there is plenty wildlife potentially it could be with reflective eyes round here, from cats to birds, but though it was in the darkest part I thought bugger it I'll try taking a picture anyway, long exposure, it'll be a bit blurry but I might be able to at least make out what the thing with the eyes is.
What I got was a few pictures, which predictably were a bit blurry, no sign of any animal, but there is a tall shadow shaped, well person shaped, and odd thing is even though the angle of the pictures changes, the amount of blur changes picture to picture, its exactly the same in each one! Ill post when I get home, assuming I get home! - as hard to see in detail what I'm looking at on the small camera screen, maybe when l get home Ill find it was just an optical illusion.
But think I might just stay inside until sun up now! }}

Re: Tales of Home [9]
{{In case anyone thinks its just my shadow few reasons for why I dont think that's possible. One the lack of light sources, the only available light was the orange lamps that or in the hill and was the only ambient light (why the pictures are tinged orange) the lamps start about 30 foot behind where I was standing and are a fairly dull orange light. Where the shadow is was, from my pov, almost pitch black. I was just trying to get pictures along the bottom of the hedge-line where Id seen the eyes in the vague hope of whatever it was showing up in them. Now there are shadows being cast, the cones are casting shadows, but only about twice their own length, and they are going in a slightly different direction. For it to be a shadow of a figure they would have to be standing not much further forward than the closest cone and if it were mine it should be casting slightly to my left, like the cones.
The other reason is I moved a few times to get different parts of the hedge and the shadow stays where it is, if it was mine it should have moved with me and cast onto different stuff. And lastly because I ran back in to grab the camera in a hurry it had the wrong lens on, the big zoom lense, but fearing whatever animal it was would scarper quick smart I just grabbed it as was- so whilst it looks like I took the pictures only a few feet from the shadow I was more like 10-15 ft away from it.
And the final best reason is that I could see my own shadow, it was right in front of me on the road, not 15 ft away. }}
