Yep, the biggest collection of Irish tunes (O'Neil's Music of Ireland) was actually compiled in Chicago. But the funny thing about Appalachian music, they've got the Celtic instrumental sound, but the vocal technique can't possibly be Gaelic, and in some cases I'd say comes from just left of Hell. I think there was a merging of protestant hymn singing with Celtic rhythms or something.

Speaking of fiddling - way to go Norc! Did the admission come with funding attached? Fiddle up a storm and make us proud.

Petty: if I'm reading this right, are those mountains on that little island of yours? Seems too big to fit.

Depends- do you mean Britain by 'that little island'- or do you think I live on an island separate from the mainland? (postal companies certainly do when it comes to promises of next day delivery  Evil or Very Mad  ).

I live on the Cowal Peninsula and those mountains are the land route out of it.
And those are hills really, for mountains you have to go a bit further north (the Scottish definition of the two has nothing to do with height- hills are things you can walk up and over, mountains need ropes)

He's American Norc- he wants to know if your further education costs you money.

I wish I had funding attached  Mad No Sad
I am doing the rounds of all the charities at the moment and its a pain in the ass as they are really picky and restrictive. 90% for people under 25, or if you life a crows flight from ye olde towne of outer Hampstead or make shoes out of leather from oxen fed solely on taters and neeps plucked at the full moon by virgins.  Mad then and only then they give you £15 quid and make you eat their taters for life.

Toneheim is a Folk High School, and they're quite expensive Smile Universities are free in Norway (except for a minor fee you pay twice a year), but these folk high schools aren't. If you can afford them you can do almost whatever you like, as there are folk high schools for almost anything - some let you travel the world, some let you practice the sport you like, play music, act, some let you spend a year doing outdoor activites. Some choose folk high schools, some the military, some work for a year or two. If you haven't decided on what to study, they're a great alternative Smile

Thanks Ringo, This side of town is nice as its away from the hustle & bustle of inner town. Less bodkins & even tho this is a main road, its quieter than further in town.

Yes Blue, in Spring most people make an effort with their gardens  ( especially the ones with dogs.....they leave the turds on the pavement !) & the local council jazz up certain areas, I love Spring, the blossom trees, the flowers, the hope Summer's GOTTA be better than last year !!!
