Re: Tales of Home [4]
Did I? Oh, that. Does my one post in a several page long conversation by other people really merit inclusion?
Well, it's your rant. It's up to you.
I could point something out, but I'm far too nice to. (I'm guessing that might be slightly annoying as well...)
Not that I mind you pointing stuff out. It's rather amusing, and slightly flattering.
As long as you're not trying to shut me up altogether, that is.

Nah, I refuse to rise to the bait.
Reading back some of these conversations though, they do make me laugh.
And I'll resist the temptation to say that you're great ... this one time.
I wouldn't want to become predictable.

Re: Tales of Home [4]
Encore! Encore!
I am genuinely impressed by how professional you all look and sound- although slightly disappointed that half way through the tune you didnt norc it and lead everyone off on a different tune!
(And nope I didnt spot you, unless thats your back to the camera )
Interesting building too, is it a church?

i don't have my back to the camera, i am right in front of the conductor, next to the blond girl, but i have a lamp right over my face and the concert master is right in front of me and why would i norc that fantastically fun song to play..
yes, it's a church, the church that in fact is the mere symbol of tromsø i was actually christened in it lucky me.

Re: Tales of Home [4]
That was a bit of a treat. I was rather impressed by that.
I can see you when you point it out. Damned lamp.
But you being group leader and the conducter shaking your hand, I'm guessing it doesn't put too much of a dampener on the your positive feelings for the event.
(Did you get a chance to listen to the Bandersnatcher thing, by the way?)

Re: Tales of Home [4]
Yeah, it certainly looks it.
It does sound great as well. And with that many youth musicians from different places. I find that really impressive.

Re: Tales of Home [4]
I saw the hell people are having, on the news tonight. Squashing themselves into to few tubes, trying to get to work & back. Will the strike affect you Lance ? I think its ridiculous booting people out in favour of Automated ticket machines etc ! Government want people to find jobs, want us all off Benefit, (one way or another !) yet, jobs are being lost hand over fist ?! Like this barmpot idea ! Thanks Boris ! That guy can be such a dick ! I think he's bloody funny, when he's being 'joe soap', but as a Mayor he's a dick !

Re: Tales of Home [4]
I wasn't really affected Azriel. I have alternatives to the Tube on my route.
Re automated machines, part of my job (other than the SAS bit) is exactly about that but for a major international bank. Reality is you bastards want everything for nothing so we have to look at things like robots instead of people as they are far cheaper to run. I could go in to the detail but as an example, if you transfer money online, it costs the bank 10p to service. The same thing in a branch costs us £12.92. Multiply that by the millions of those transactions we get.... It costs us a lot of money.
Someone has to pay!

Re: Tales of Home [4]
I can understand the financial side but, its such a shame, not to mention a blow, when machines are better to have than a good old human being ? Its making life a lot more precarious from the view point of a man raising a family or a guy trying to better himself ( or herself ).

Re: Tales of Home [4]
Well... I do wonder how long we will need money for. At some point technology will either destroy us (need for consumption overtaking resources and subsequent issues) or it will provide the means to fabricate whatever we need... much like a replicator on star trek. Nearly there already with multi - ingredient 3 printing machines.
Re: Tales of Home [4]
You know in the past, from the dawn of the machine age and automation, people looked to a future where everyone had leisure time and the right to pursue their own interests whilst the machines worked, somewhere we lost this utopian idea.
I am off the opinion that since the start of automation to the present day and on into the foreseeable future there will be less and less jobs- why hire a building full of people when machinery or computers can do the same work with 6 people?
Fr this reason I think we have the attitude to unemployment arse to elbow- its not a problem it should be a goal!
No more drudgery, no more been forced to work in a dead end job for little money- after all if you have a factory that in 1920 employed 400 people and now the same factory produces more than it did then with 10 people then the money is still there- they are still making the same profit only now they dont support those other 390 workers they once did.
If your company makes a billion profit after everything else has been paid and new investments made thats NOT a healthy profit- its greed.

Re: Tales of Home [4]
Yes, and some would say it should be the banks responsibility, the way the banks of this world is forking in the money, to pay some of that back in customer care.
I do feel for you with the commute, Lance. I only have about 15 minutes with the tube to the city center, and sometimes I feel that is a bit of a chore.
