Don't push me Figgy!!!
Barrowman is walking on thin ice as it is. Hopefully Paul McCartney will walk on it too so we can get rid of them both.

Re: Tales of Home [4]
I dont think Barrowman could walk on thin ice, he's quite sturdy looking.
Maybe he can do a dance number over it, as a distraction while you take out the targets Lance. As from the strength of your denials I am now convinced you are at least working partners, and possibly dance partners at your Torchwood-esque high powered super secret job.

Pettytyrant101 wrote:I'd say by default most folks are still feet and inches ect, but in practise most folks can do both.
Its sort of fascinating seeing how people adopt some things- I dont know anyone who measures their height in metres and centimetres, but you would buy a sheet of wood in metres.
It metric for some things and the old system for others- the things that are retained seem to be things relating to the individual- measurements of height and weight, and instances where the metric version sounds stupid or clumsy in the mouth- like 568ml - so people still tend to say a pint.
Dont know if its more metric in England or not.
I'd just round off a pint and call it a half liter. (I think 568 is a bit high, more like 528 ml...er wait, or you using imperial gallons? urg.). And then since that's still a mouthful compared to a pint, may as well just order a liter.
Feet and inches are nice for height because it breaks things into chunks and subdivisions. And though 6 feet is a decent cut-off for a very masculine height, 2 meters is a freak. (no offense meant to the Dunedain, which supposedly reached this altitude on a regular basis).

Why waste drinking time on two words when you have one word that works fine?
"may as well just order a liter"
My personal theory why this is a bad idea is that humans have been drinking pints for so long our bowels are timed for urination based on them- drinking litres instead throws the whole balance and timing out

I admit I want to camp where I'm told not to, but not on that day.

Re: Tales of Home [4]
Just saw that on the news.
Some Christmas weather.
I saw the police were clearing the streets of Trondheim telling people to get inside because the wind was blowing so much.

Re: Tales of Home [4]
I had to walk through the city center of Oslo today.
Wet, dark and covered in dirty melted snow.
It was quite depressing really. I think I know now why I don't go there that often.

Close to 25 meters per second in the areas that got it worst. That would be about 75-80 feet per second (not sure which you use).

Re: Tales of Home [4]
That would be roughly 50 miles per hour. Not hurricane strength, but still very powerful.
Part of the reason Manhattan came through Hurricane sandy so well is that by regulation all power lines must be buried. I'm afraid there are a lot of people up North right now who are shivering unless they have alternative to electrical power.

Yeah.
You certainly must have had it blowing around your ears Ringo.
Hasn't there been like 3 big storms now just in the last couple of weeks.
Eldo; We don't really get that much of that weather around here, having a mountain range situated between us and the west coast. It really is a bit embarrasing when all the other fjordians on here are beeing hit with this weather and all we have around here is "flau vind" as one would say in fjordlandian.
Hope everyone else is okay.

Re: Tales of Home [4]
Well I'm glad you guys are safe. Fingers crossed for all those affected, though.
Re: Tales of Home [4]
Yeah, they are all from very weather beaten parts of the country as well so I'm sure they're fine. They're used to it.
It's like the sliding bus thing in Tromsø, if that had been going on here there probably would have been monumental public outrage. The people in Tromsø just seem to take it in their stride.
Still, I hope noone gets hurt.

Was between 70 and gust of just over 100 here last week.

This is what the wind lords send us in answer to DOS
I'm fine, though, Blue I've been staying inside (except for last night), no point leaving the house. Luckily the weekend is here now
