That's been the (admittedly tentative) release schedule since before they started filming, I think.

2012! I'll be 54 years old then - and probably long drownded!

(Mmm... might not be all that bad --- will give me the chance to read the book a few more times before all my dreams and memories are ruined. Gotta look at the bright side, methinks. )

It's only about 14 months away, Orwell! Don't despair; I remember when I was celebrating that it was only three years away, but that was long before filming started when people thought it would come out in 2011.

Just curious... are we ignoring all the Evangeline Lilly Tauriel stuff as it seems to be news for news sake, or is it in umbridge at the inclusion of Tauriel?

Bit of both on my part- I haven't seen anything to make me think including her is a good idea and her own words since have done nothing but cement that point of view- I'm sure she is a fine actor and all that and a fine looking woman but she does not belong in the Hobbit!

After the initial razzmatazz the info seems to have dried up dramatically... i will be optomistic and assume this is because they are actually busy making the films, not goofing off to take part in extreme sports in NZ

Its been a good while sinc we heard anyhitng. I had thought they might have had some treats ready to put out during the fillming gap to keep interest up, but its been and gone and they are back to filming and not a peep.
And Sir Ian hasn't updated his Hobbit blog since the 31st of May!

You know the news is slow when even TORn is struggling to make it seem like there is much going on!

Nonsense, Anne, the important thing is to take your time to work out who are the sensible folk here. "Jumping in" is exactly what a nice lady (or girl) should NOT do! My advice is, find worthwhile topics to talk about, then post those worthwhile topics. Mind you, there are some sensible threads here --- too few though. (Can I suggest Wholesome Tales.
