Re: Doctor Who [4]
I was walking to my afternoon class today when I noticed this sign someone had put up next to a statue, and I couldn't resist taking a picture.

Not a Doctor, just a guy who gave a lot of money to the University. And possibly a Weeping Angel.

Re: Doctor Who [4]
I'm here dear Figgs! I only briefly.
All statues should have that warning on them!
So much Who stuff Ive missed too.
First the sad- the passing of the original voice of the Daleks- Peter Hawkins.
Whilst I like the current Dalek voices Hawkins somehow always got a surprising amount of character and individuality into his Daleks.
And also sadly passing away Ray Cusick who designed the Dalek look.
Daleks have taken a lot of stick over the years for their look yet no ones ever bettered it and few 'shapes' in scifi are so instantly distinct.
Onto the good news- the new series kicks off on the 30th of March and here's a poster for it- very um actiony.
Various interesting villains and bad guys in the shards- including the Ice Warriors from classic Who and something that looks suspiciously Gaiman like to me.

Re: Doctor Who [4]
Here's the Ice Warriors as they appeared in classic who-
And here is the new look-
And here is the new look-
- Spoiler:
Not a huge change which I like- the main difference is losing the clamp like hands of the original which is probably a good idea.

Re: Doctor Who [4]
All the previous Who threads are in the Arts and Entertainment forum. If you're looking at the thread link you just have to use the page buttons at the bottom to look back through the archive. I've also been editing the links into the first post of each new thread, though I had forgotten to do that for this one until just now.
Re: Doctor Who [4]
great thanks Eldo I found that link. cheers

Re: Doctor Who [4]
I think Smith is superb of course- the range he brings to his performance is superb and I find him utterly engaging to watch and the complete embodiment of all previous incarnations of the character.
On the matter of how long Who will last- I am not actually adverse to it taking the occasional hiatus of a few years off every now and again- rather that than what happened before- which was the standards of writing and acting got less and less.
However whilst perhaps after Smiths run would be a good time to do so I have my doubts the BBC will- as Who is more popular internationally now than ever before- and I am not sure they will risk losing those audiences so soon after gaining them (its really only with Moffat/Smith that Who has hit the heights abroad, even thought RTD/Tennant laid the groundwork).

To whet the appetite a couple of vids- I really, really like this first one- several vids have tried to capture the darker side to the Doctor- this one for my money does so very well-
