Re: Doctor Who [4]
You watched either ep yet Mrs Figg?
I just spoke to Nagual, hadn't seen him since last week and asked him what he thought of the Rings ep- he said it was so awful if there was no episode next week after that he doesnt think he would be bothered.
Did I mention it was a bit polarising this ep?

Re: Doctor Who [4]
Rings kinda reminds me of one of my favourite 5th Doctor stories Kinda (see what I did there!)- it also was a metaphysical study disguised as an episode of Who.

Re: Doctor Who [4]
The Rings ep contiunues to polarize Whovians- with no consenseus emerging at all.
At the moment on the Gallfrey Base rate the ep poll, 168 people have given it a 10 (Fantastic! The absolute pinnacle) and 145 people have given it a 1 (I'd rather listen to a tape loop of leaf blower noise).
548 folks gave it an 8 out of 10 (It's certainly worthy of very high praise!)
And 488 gave it a 3 (This one's bad but it's got some good in it, just there.)
Never seen a spilt like it over a single episode before.

Re: Doctor Who [4]
Every so often Who delves into the metapyhsical, stories about whats going underneath and not necessarirly what he surface story appears to be about.
If you are the sort of person who watches St to spot f the actors are pressing the right buttons to match how the engines wor then these are nightmare sort of stroies for you. They are allegoical and metaphorica.
Like complaining Alice couldnt really survive a fall that far down a rabbit hole and demanding an explanination for how playing cards come to life.
Who has big themes bubbling uder the surface and sometimes they come to the fore- and because they are big subjects they have to approached from the side, after all is that what fanatsy and scifi are really for- talking about the big issues through the meatphor of the medium?
But the end result is a huge split in the audience.
Its also an episode that benefits greatly from a second watch as it is quite dense niin ideas and concepts.
But watch it yourself Eldo- links in the above post only 45 minutes long and perfectly watchabale as a standalone episode- all you need to know is Clara is the Doctors new companion, but he has met her twice before at different points in time as apparently different people but all called Clara.
This Clara, cpntemporary with our own time, seems unaware of any of that and this is her first big trip into space with the doctor.
Share your thoughts on the most controversial episode of NuWho!

Re: Doctor Who [4]
Typical Sun this-
Doctor viewer crisis!
Audience down 1million
DOCTOR Who has shed a million viewers in a week — with last Saturday’s show branded the WORST EVER by disappointed fans.
The latest episode, the second in the new BBC series, was watched by 5.7 million people, compared with the 6.7 million who tuned in at Easter.
What they fail to mention is the second episode of every series bar the first has a difference of about 1 million viewers down the way- the big launch, the advertising extra always draws in about a million more for the opening not to mention it being a holiday weekend.
They also end the piece with-
However many fans said they enjoyed the new direction for Matt Smith’s Doctor — and some noted that many watch later on iPlayer.
A BBC spokeswoman said: “This episode convincingly won its slot. The series is in fine form."
The figures so far including iplayer are at 7.2 milllion, perfectly average and normal for an episode of Who and actually looks like it will finish the week a bit higher than the average no2 ep of a series. But then The Sun never have been one to let facts get in the way of a crisis headline!

Re: Doctor Who [4]
Clearly fans were disappointed with the latest episode. So disappointed that they pre-emptively decided not to watch the episode before it even aired!
Re: Doctor Who [4]
- Spoiler:
- well I just watched Bells, or the first 20 minutes, I turned it off, it was boring. I found the acting really fake and brittle, I just dont believe them, and I find Clara irritating and smug and too actressy not natural . and the souls thing just disappointing, you cant reduce something as mysterious as a persons soul to a series of computer Language. sorry I wont say any more as I dont want to upset you. its not for me. never mind I will try the Azkaban one next maybe I will prefer it
