Successful download!

I watched some of the parts that most troubled me, and this is much better! I'll have to find time to watch it straight through soon. Unfortunately the sound isn't quite synched as was mentioned, but other than that it looks quite watchable. I showed my brother how Goblin Town has been reduced to the essentials, putting the focus back on Bilbo's story. He used to be a projectionist, and commented on the smoothness of the edit.

Still annoyed about the sound, must be conveting it from the raw avi is doing that as its fine- if you are watching in vlc just go to the tools tab then track synch- easy to sort form there.

Damned pecular- I can only think it must be your internet connection- as nobody else seems to be having any problems downloading it.

Could you try downloading it elsewhere? It really shouldnt take more than fifteen to twenty minutes.

is it possible to copy it onto a cd or something?

It would fit on a dvd- but thats more hassle and more time consuming than just downloading should be.

Oops. When I downloaded the new edit and unpacked it with WinRAR, it automatically opened in VLC, but I forgot to take note of where the file resided or what it's name and file type was. Now I can't find it.

Can any of you who've been successful so far give me any clues? I'm running Windows XP.

Go to your start button and type sequence 01 into the search bar, that should bring it up under videos. Right click on it to either get its properties and see where it is, or open file location to bring it up in a window.

I assume youve looked in your downloads folder?

ok i tried again and only 4 would save. but it wouldnt open, it said I needed winzip or something strange. I tried but it just wont open. the first 3 were going to take hours, it even said 6 hours at one point. and then it stopped downloading at all. this is not going to work.

do you live anywhere near anybody else on here. Get them to download and compile and put it on a USB drive? haha. That really does stink Mrs. Figg

Don't give up Mrs Figg. When I try at home with my telephone connection it says 22 hours each for the first three, and they stop downloading after about 45 minutes. If I drive to my brother's house it tells me 25 minutes each on his wifi connecton, but I've found that I can do two at once and it will take about 20 minutes for both of them.

As for the Winzip, it's a free program for packaging and unpackaging these sorts of things. You'll need it to unfold the files from the box Petty has shipped them in. Get the free trial download of it here:

You'll also probably want to get VLC which is a free movie projector that will save you a lot of fiddling when you're watching it. You can get it here:

Try getting those two tools first. They're small. If you can't get them to download you don't need to waste your time trying to download the movie files. If you can get the tools, then you may need to visit a library, cafe or university with a little faster connection for an hour or so to get the 4 files.

Then it should work like a charm!

as for the synch, just use the keys f and g to move the synch around when it goes out. Really easy to get it right.

hey, out of curiosity petty, hows book 4 coming along?

so this computer is taking the piss. I downloaded winzip thing, but I still cant open the file. wtf am I doing wrong?

I click on the part 4, as its the only quick one, and then it says open or save, and I try both but neither open.

I'm a little out of my depth on this stuff Mrs Figg, but when I asked Winzip to open file 1, it went ahead and opened all 4 and laced them together into one movie.

So I'm thinking it's something like ordering an Ikea sofa and having it arrive disassembled in 4 boxes, with the instruction manual in box 1, and all the legs not necessarily in the same box. If you ask a friend to open box 4 and build you a chair, it might work but I wouldn't bet on it.
( At least that's my theory until Petty tells me I'm full of horselore.... )
