Re: Countdown to Release [2] SPOILER THREAD
Yeah, that's the one with Smaug we were talking about. I hadn't seen a high-quality copy of it yet; thanks for posting it.
Re: Countdown to Release [2] SPOILER THREAD
per the Armitage clip: horrid, horrid, horrid. There's not a single thing about that short 20 seconds I don't find discouraging. Radagast with the dwarves? Gandalf berating Thorin for being a blabbermouth? A warg that evidently shows up before they escape from the Goblins and looks like an ROUS from the Princess Bride?!!!
I've never applied the word crabbit to myself before, but now I'm feeling it!

Re: Countdown to Release [2] SPOILER THREAD
Another review in-
http://letterboxd.com/adamwaldowski/film/the-hobbit-an-unexpected-journey/
'I wouldn't see another film projected at 48 fps if I were held at gunpoint. ...It was distractingly cartoonish and never managed to trick the eye in the way 24 fps does.
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is deeply problematic despite the artistry of its production design, effects and sound work. This story is too episodic, tonally defunct and overloaded with action scenes...Jackson and company rely on The Lord of the Rings nostalgia at every turn to keep us engaged. From Howard Shore's familiar musical themes to Cate Blanchett's unnecessary cameo...An overuse of CGI and gimmicky 3D effects establish an aesthetic that matches a video game-like plot where characters survive against all probable odds. A scene involving rock monsters, for instance...would clearly result in the death of every character if this has the slightest notion of reality. Even fantasy needs some credibility.'

Re: Countdown to Release [2] SPOILER THREAD
Not too encouraging, but that site appears to be for user reviews. They also have a four-and-a-half star review up.
http://letterboxd.com/kenru/film/the-hobbit-an-unexpected-journey/
Although even that review has some criticisms to give. The pacing seems to be a common issue from the reactions I've read so far.

Higher-quality video of the Armitage clip (still starts at 2:38).

Still not really feeling it.

It's Liam Cunningham, who does look a lot like Jason Isaacs.

Re: Countdown to Release [2] SPOILER THREAD
Half a dozen new clips are up on YouTube.
There is nobody home
Give him the contract
Who did you tell about your quest?
Swords are named for the great deeds they do
Goblin chase
I wasn't talking to you!
Some genuinely good stuff in here, but I can see the some of the reasons for the mixed reviews.

Damn, they were all working earlier today but now they're blocked for me too. Hopefully the other links still work.

Re: Countdown to Release [2] SPOILER THREAD
I'm reassured by all of the clips except for the warg one. I can find no relevance to the main plot, especially with radagast there!!!

After a string of 15hr workdays where I've been fuelled by stress and caffeine, not to mention the despair elicited by some of the Hobbit reviews, I'm now resorting to cheap buckie to survive. Drink is the therapist of the working classes.

Re: Countdown to Release [2] SPOILER THREAD
I have a feeling Petty might like the new movie, even though it may be slow passed and not really a plot, because there is no real plot when you cut an existing plot into three, because it has everything in it. I read a review saying it explained and expanded all the commas.. and punctuations.. so.. idk... but is that a good thing? i dunno.. for all the added bits and the fact that it is a rather short book to expand into three movies, who knows. I am looking forward to it, but I don't think it'll be as great as FOTR. And we can't shove it away, the fact that the Hobbit totally relies on the success of LOTR.
Petty... you may have some editing to do.. cut the crap and get down to the story.

Re: Countdown to Release [2] SPOILER THREAD
Sadly Norc I read that same review, and I came to the conclusion that the writer of it hasnt looked at the book.
It seems the scenes in Bag End last considerably longer than it would actually take to read that bit out loud from the book.
So what we are actually getting is not I reckon lots of Tolkien dialogue- because there isnt really lots of Tolkien dialogue to use, but lots of PJ made up dialogue and a ridiculously long dining scene filled with snot gags and fart jokes.
