Indeed! Actually Freud had a wetnurse so there is a suggestion his relationship with his mother (and the relationship he assumed other men had with their mothers) was caused by reverse Westermark effect, basically because he didn't live in constant contact with his mother his brain did not associate her as a close relative and therefore he was able to be attracted to her - happens occasionally where siblings separated very early on are attracted to each other and sometimes even marry when/if they meet in later life. And before anyone gets properly squicked out, I'll get off the subject...
I have full faith in Petty's editing skills.

Re: Countdown to Release [2] SPOILER THREAD
Tons of new footage in these two new TV spots, including Dale and (I think) a disembodied Ringwraith -- either that or a Barrow-wight -- that unfortunately looks like something out of a video game.
Re: Countdown to Release [2] SPOILER THREAD
That really looked like the King from the army of the dead to me,made Ghost-like, & the wargs look like the ones from TT ?

Re: Countdown to Release [2] SPOILER THREAD
Warner Bros Belgium posted a 13 minute preview of the film on YouTube. Unfortunately it was taken down but you can view a mirror of it here:
http://www.movieweb.com/news/the-hobbit-an-unexpected-journey-13-minute-featurette-with-all-new-footage
If you've been worrying about The Hobbit this might restore some of your faith in the production, though I wouldn't say it's entirely in the clear. It doesn't do anything to address potential pacing or editing problems. Also it is incredibly, MASSIVELY spoilerish. But oh so worth it if you've been feeling gloomy about The Hobbit's prospects.

Re: Countdown to Release [2] SPOILER THREAD
lol. why bother watching the movie with all this tv-spots and the riddle scene being shown..
Re: Countdown to Release [2] SPOILER THREAD
Cause the movie's almost three hours long, so there's by definition a lot of stuff they haven't shown...?
Re: Countdown to Release [2] SPOILER THREAD
naah, i don't believe you. anyways, I like the element of surprise.
Re: Countdown to Release [2] SPOILER THREAD
Seems like they're sticking to the appendices non-sense as an excuse.
In fact, most of this video seemed like an attempt to justify the ever growing list of complaints. Good music and scenery. But I'm not feeling it this time around though.

Re: Countdown to Release [2] SPOILER THREAD
I'm kind of looking forward more now to listening to the writers commentary than on watching the film- they should be a master class in bullshitting by all accounts, or confessing.

Re: Countdown to Release [2] SPOILER THREAD
Wow, I'm not used to being the optimistic one. Not sure how to handle this. :/
Re: Countdown to Release [2] SPOILER THREAD
I think Eldo that compared to me at least you are the optimistic one.
Sorry to be the one to break it to you.
I've always said you've a hidden streak of PJ liberalism in your blood.

Re: Countdown to Release [2] SPOILER THREAD
Well yes, I'm not surprised that I'm more optimistic than you, Petty. But normally I'm not the most optimistic person about The Hobbit.
Re: Countdown to Release [2] SPOILER THREAD
Got 8 hrs worth of train journey tomorrow, so I'm going to take my copy of The Hobbit and read it with the aim of having fresh purist eyes when the movie comes out (Boxing Day in Australia). I'll also have another read of the appendices, so I can call out PJ & Co.
Thanks for the link to that featurette, Eldo - I have mixed feelings about it that I've listed below:
- Kili definitely doesn't look like a dwarf, as we suspected
- Radagast is freaking weird...
- The White Council may actually be one of the additions I enjoy (in a purely cinematic sense - Cate, Christopher, Hugo and Ian are such brilliant actors) and I think I'd like it a lot more if it weren't being shoehorned into the Hobbit.
- Martin Freeman really will give the role of Bilbo everything it deserves (the rest is up to the script...)
- Talking trolls, some of it dialogue from the books :-)
- Given she claims she doesn't use botox or plastic surgery, Cate Blanchett must be an elf - how else would she still look like that at 43?
- The Riddle scene will be awesome, and I think I'm liking the beginning bit (after the prologue I mean - the stuff in Hobbiton) but I'm really not sure about the rest...
- Pretty visuals. Glad I'm not watching in 48FPS 3D though...

Re: Countdown to Release [2] SPOILER THREAD
I'm definitely looking forward to seeing the landscapes of New Zealand in full theatrical glory again. That was one of the best parts of the LOTR revival screening for me.
Re: Countdown to Release [2] SPOILER THREAD
You sure it wasn't a fire sale?

Wow, that's quite a exposition of the White Council. I think it fits in well as a story motivation and linkage to LoTR. I'm even getting to the point of accepting Galadrial's valium-voice, which annoyed me a bit in LotR.

Just watched one of the linked videos... Radagast doesn't just have droppings on him, he has an actual bird's nest under his hat.
Erm, among other stuff... but this is news to me.
