The bottom line is, that PJ is NOT to blame. in any way shape or form. His team or the studio people deal with all these legal and welfare issues. If someone has dropped the ball, or not dealt with these issues in a professional manner thats for them to sort out not PJ personally. He trusts that his team does their job according to high standards. The very last thing he needs are more problems during or after filming. He is there to make the film and his responsibility is to get it finished while his team or the studio has the responsibility for day to day running and organization. He is responsible for hiring the best team, but not everyone will do a good job. But thats true of any buisness. I just strongly object to knee-jerk reactions against PJ. He does not deserve it.

Whether he deserves blame or not is not really relevant- if Wingnut were the production company responsible for oversight of animal welfare then as the head of the company ultimate legal responsibility rests with him.
There is a list as long as your arm of company CEO's held by the law to be responsbile for actions conducted by others within their company.
Personnal direct responsibilty does not come into it.

That was my opinion (and delibretely provocative to spark debate) and not an assessment of the information- besides look on the bright side I didnt blame PJ solely, I blamed co as well. Nod

I personally think it is a case of greed on the part of those who undertook the job. They took the money and could care less about the poor creatures. i fell sick for their torment and death. You have to do a lot to actually kill an animal. those poor horses. With Peter's love of animals i don't believe he for a moment did not care about their welfare. But after all his day to day routine hardly leaves time to rest and he must have been confident those hired would do a stellar job the same as all the hundreds of others who have come through with awesome dedication and care.

Again legally how much he cares wont count for much when it comes to whether his company is legally reponsible or not.
Courts dont tend to judge on sentiment- only on the law.
I supsect if it were to find its way to a Court, even if Wingnut were found guilty, it would a finable offence. PJ would not even have to get in the dock- it would be handled by lawyers and such.
Very bad PR would be the worst damage.

Well in my opinion its just a load of sour grapes from one or two sacked wranglers, who want to cause upset and get revenge. PETA has taken them at face value and charged in, which has caused negative publicity. My guess is that haters will go on hating.

It may well be just that Mrs Figg- but that official statement does not do anything like enough to confirm that- it will be interesting to see how it plays out.

The stage things are at the moment is basically claim and counter claim.

from start to finish, this production has had serious problems, legal or natural, everything has gone wrong, from earthquakes, or accusations of racism, or studio wrangling, now its animal wrangling. Pj must be fed up.

Alas,such is the problem with being "top of the tree", Taking on such responsibilities is crushing. So many times you have what seems, & starts off, a very simple idea. Then,as the journey progresses, all sorts of things creep in. You have to be one step ahead of the game & expect the unexpected, then have the nounce to deal with all eventualities. To be a leader you have to delegate, & delegate WELL. You also need trust,in those around you, & you have to keep on the ball, or, you get well & truly stuffed & let down by those around you.But,by taking on the mantle you cant afford to be naive,or slack on issues.

Apparently the offical Hobbit apps contains the following bit of info-

"The dwarves waited for 60 years to take back Erebor".

It also says that Thrain 'disappeared into Khazad-dum'. and that Balin 'accompanied him on his doomed mission.'

Is there anything at all he is not going to change?

I've had a listen to a couple of the news reports they made on TH and cant find anything unusual in their reporting that would seem to justify such a ban.

A case of write what we want or we will ban you? And particularly dispicabale to ban the journalist then say but we want you to send a different journalist so we still get the coverage. Mad

There seems to be a bit of head steam of bad PR around at the moment. I am not sure this sort of thing will help with releations with the press.

In what 3 days we have had accusations of animal cruelty, banning a journlist for not writing what they want her too.
And as you said earlier Eldo the Tolkien Estate has begun legal proceddings against them over the merchandising clause of the original contract.

Not the sort of press headlines I would think they wanted to be generating this close to the premiere of the first film.

Yeah, there's definitely been a lot of negative Hobbit headlines recently. I honestly hope that it clears up though. I'd like the movie to get as far an opportunity as possible, despite my trepidation towards it.

Also, Jesus, the premiere of The Hobbit is exactly one week away. It hasn't been that long since we were asking if filming would never actually start, has it? This feels rather surreal when I stop and think about it.

Problem with the press is if they start to smell blood. ..

It is all a bit surreal feeling at the moment. Its quite a different vibe surrounding this than at this stage before the premiere of FotR.
