The most recent goblin designs look like something out of The Goonies. Just saying.

Yeah not to taken with the goblin pics myself Eldo- I was thinking more like a poor mans Dark Crystal.
Still the troll looks inteliigent enough to talk properly, not in half grunts so Im taking that as a positive sign- not sure what that goblin seeems to be doing hanging about friendly like with the company though- thats a bit odd, is there a good goblin? On a personal journey of self discovery no doubt Mad

Maybe it's a lady goblin and she's got the hots for Bifur's axe head. We need to have some romance in the first movie after all! Laughing

From an article here- http://www.stuff.co.nz/dominion-post/culture/7928003/Exclusive-interview-with-the-Hobbit-himself

''Everything has to please him [Jackson], but it also has to please me. I guess he's in charge of that, but I'm a close second in terms of my own judgement, and my work, and my own choices for Bilbo. But yeah, there were early moments in the filming where we had to negotiate where I thought Bilbo was and where Peter thought he was. And where Peter thought he was was kind of a surprise to me. I was like, 'Okay. That wasn't quite where I was looking at.'''

I wish they had got him to eleaborate on that.

^ That quote is by Freeman in case anyone else, like me, wasn't sure without checking.

It's hard to say what that means without any details but I guess we'll find out. I'm not convinced Freeman would necessarily have been advocating for a more faithful Bilbo. If I recall correctly he's one of the many actors who had barely read the books before the possibility of a role arose. Regardless, he's very talented and I have a lot of respect for him.

I wish they had got him to elaborate on that.

Elaborate? hell he'd be in the same boat as Viggo if he did that... Notice Viggo wasn't asked back as Aragorn since if I remember correctly he had a few negative comments about the direction of the second 2 films in the LOTR trilogy. No

I'm not sure that's the reason. They also didn't ask Karl Urban back ... because there's no role for his character in The Hobbit. If they do include Aragorn at all it would make sense to cast a significantly younger actor just for a brief cameo. That said, I'm sure if PJ really wanted to he would have found a way to shoehorn the adult Aragorn in, so what do I know? Rolling Eyes

''I'm very clear that Peter's in charge, and he knows this world better than I do, or better than anyone else does, who's likely to make it in to a film."
That statement struck me as odd ? Shocked Does he mean Tolkiens world Or PJs world ? Probably means PJs "world" after reading it back again . I WAS gonna say, if it was Tolkiens world, then I can safely say PJ knows Squat all ! Ive read the books,( The Sil,The Hobbit,LOTRs etc, over a period of time) & am still learning & absorbing them, PJ has said hes only read them once, I know Im a duffus at times, but,If I cant get it all by now, then how could PJ ? And enough knowledge to confidently make a film(s).

I'm sure he and several others have re-read the books multiple times during the planning stage to make sure they were getting things (partially) right. There's too much detail for him to do it from memory. Whether he's actually looking at the plot or just snooping for names to sprinkle here and there is debatable.

Freeman says he had not read the book before he got the part- but he readi t once he had- so hardly suprising his view of Bilbo was different from PJ's.
PJ himself says he only read Lord of the Rings once when he was 18 having just watched the Bakshi version.
As far as I know he makes no claim to having reread it, not even during the making of LotR's where he seems to have deferred to the Boyens woman as the 'expert'.

I got the distinct impression from some Viggo comments and interviews he was not impressed with the direction of TT and especially RotK.

Radagast is bothering me a tad. PJ is making him look like a lost hobo,or dementia patient thats escaped capture ! Gandalf looks kinda wizardy, looks more in tune with nature, to me, than poor old Raddy. Saruman looks positively elegant up against these two. Yet are'nt they all as powerful as each other, more or less,?

I can understand people not having read LoTR, but not read the Hobbit? Wasn't aware such people existed, especially over the age of 40. Couldn't find any statistics on this but I sort of considered it a rite of passage.

then while looking for surveys I come across this:

"When I heard there would be a scene with a giant spider, orcs, etc. I felt let down. The LOTR trilogy had a spider scene that can’t be beat. Is Mr. Jackson out of ideas? Geesh, boring, more orcs, boring, I cannot understand why Mr. Jackson is being redundant in these characters. Surely, these films can provide some really interesting baddies we haven’t seen before. Well, guess it’s like other series-the Klingons in Star Trek etc. Wish this was different."

Shudder.

To be fair, Tolkien did recycle a lot of elements from TH in LOTR, but still. That comment almost sounds like the people complaining that Jackson ripped off the Warcraft games.
