I think it's worth noting that Armitage is speaking from the perspective of his character, too. The Dwarves were not especially knowledgeable about the Seven Rings and most of them thought it had been lost by Thror when he was killed by Azog. I could see them misinterpreting the effects of the Ring as this "dragon sickness", although I always interpreted it as just another term for greed, which obviously needs no supernatural cause.

I always took that reference to be a more generic term for a desire and lust for gold rather than meaning a specific illness Eldo- it seems to me Pj has taken that and is using it instead of the effect of the dwarf rings.

Depends how much is made of it- I dont really like the idea of Thorin acting like he is a drug addict towards gold- that seems a bit much to me.

I think it depends on how Armitage plays it. I'd rather not see him go into a breakdown like Frodo did under the influence of the Ring but that's not necessarily what Armitage meant. I'll wait and see how his performance works onscreen. Smile

Only parts so far on a borrowed computer. I'll give you a review when I've seen the whole thing, hopefully after some systems upgrades that allow me to do it justice. What I've seen I really like! Of course I've watched the older low def version last year, but you seem to have really cleaned it up since then. It feels like the pacing is a smoother and more natural, but it's hard to really say anything more without a fair viewing.

Allegedly from a Weta art book to accompany the film- concept Thorin beards!

Is it just me or are they all better than what we seem to have ended up with? More regal, dwarvish looking?

"Dragon Age?" Shocked Sounds positively 'Creationist' for some reason. Shocked

Actually, this being Forumshire, I guess one must be a "Creationist"... Bless Eru! Very Happy

Evolution, afterall, would appear to make absolutely no sense here. Mmm... interesting... Idea

I wouldn't say they're all better but I definitely would have chosen something other than what they went with for Thorin's beard. I wonder if Armitage's desire to grow his own beard for the film influenced their choice to go with more modest facial hair.
