Its comments like this;

'Sworn to secrecy about what had transpired, she revealed only that Peter
Jackson, the director of the films, who has been elevated to almost godlike
status by his fellow New Zealanders, was “Tolkien incarnate”

that make me think Chris Tolkien is right and PJ really is damaging to his fathers name.

The second one was just the first one but with the smoking scenes replaced to get a lower rating.

Hobbit Day is a new one on me and sounds suspicously like a WB marketing ploy to me.

And not to worry Semiramis- you will get an invite to all the Forumshire parties- and with xmas approaching there will be plenty I am sure. rendeer

Yeah, this is clearly a marketing strategy, but for what it's worth September 22 has always been a significant day for Tolkien fans since it's Bilbo and Frodo's. For example, it's when Christopher Lee has begun his annual re-reading of LOTR since long before the movies were even an inkling in PJ's mind. Very Happy

At the very least hopefully others will read the Hobbit on the 22nd. Maybe it'll become an "event" a sort of unofficial holiday for mainstream society. I'm just being optimistic. Very Happy

Hmm, a Wednesday. Wonder if it'll be a late in the evening release like last time. It's hard to believe that it's already been nine months since the first trailer!

I have a feeling this trailer will include a bit of Mirkwood, because that's a very big tie back to LOTR (I mean Leggy I love you

) and fans are going to recognize that. Or I'm wrong and he still has no bloody clue where the first movie ends! What if Mirkwood suddenly has been pushed back to movie 2?

I no the book doesn't mention it, but did the company go through Bree ?
It is on the way to Elronds house.
Did the meeting with the Trolls take them around Bree ?

We can reasonably assume that they passed through Bree, although I don't think that Tolkien had conceived of the village at the time he wrote The Hobbit (though naturally he would have when he made the later revisions).

The meeting with the trolls occurred after the Company had already traveled across most of Eriador, though. It was closer to Rivendell than to Bree.

It's not that anything was wrong, per se, but Frodo's birthday was never mentioned in conjunction with Bilbo's in the movies, nor was the Long-expected Party for anyone but Bilbo.
