Look at their patronouss. James had a male deer thing and lily a female, they complete each other. Snape has a doe, same as lily. The difference between love and obsession. Snape could never have made lily happy.it would be a one sided rekationship. She would giv and he wouldn't be able to give back, just recieve..

Though the appeal of Snape is just that complexity, I think. It's easy to do good when all your circumstances pushes you in that direction, butto still choose to do so when they do the opposite is a lot more dificult.

I dont agree at all about Snape not being able to give. he is bitter and closed off to the world because the only person he truly loved died. If Lily had lived and been with him instead of James Snape wouldnt have been bitter, he would have been a completely different person and not so damaged. I dont believe it would have been one sided. He was capable of extreme sacrifice for her and never forgot her, that love at its best not some obsession.
