And this is why Ringdrotten has fan fiction written about him.
If I had just a tenth of the charm you have with the ladies Ringdroten added to my own I would almost have enough for half a normal person (but it'd probably only make me crabbit anyway )
(And thats crabbit Azreil- not your english imitation!
Crabbit is sacred, its inspirational -all those Scots invention- being crabbit at everything that is, well combined with having great ideas at 4 in the morning inspired by buckie that is (and reluctance to wash plates- look a penicillin joke!). Crabbit is a force not to be lightly meddled with- crabby wouldnt muster it as a bit grumpy up here )

I was kind of frustrated by the ending the first time I saw it, but after some reflection I think I understand what they were aiming for, even if it's not the sort of storytelling that I'm a big fan of. It was well-made and looked phenomenal. I wasn't sure what to expect from Madhouse since they've lost a lot of talent in recent years but they've still got it.
NB I wish we had a dedicated anime thread, but my previous attempts to convince people here to watch anime have not met with much success (partially due to Doctor Who distracting everyone ). It's nice to know I'm not the only person on this forum who watches anime.
Well, it's good to see I wasn't outsmarted by cartoons and that it's a genuinely confusing ending. We can be frustrated together.

Ringdrotten wrote:azriel wrote:Praps the books are better ??
The books are great, the kind you can't stop reading, the kind that makes you late for school or work because you stayed up all night in order to finish reading the chapter, and then the next one, and then the next after that and so on. The films are crap. At best they're just less crap
Don't mind Petty, he's just an angry man
I agree Ringo. The books have a weird kind of magic to them, makes you love them and the characters. I resisted reading them for years, I didnt like all the hype and hoohaa, but I was hooked from the first book. I couldnt wait for the next one to come out. I started reading them when she had written the Order of the Phoenix.

I can't speak to the comparison with famous British children's literature since that's not a genre I'm particularly familiar with, but I've always been aware of Rowling's borrowing from folklore and mythical creatures from around the world. I think she's been fairly open about her influences. I'll agree that her talent as a writer is sometimes oversold, but whatever flaws she has, a lack of creativity or vitality is not one of them IMO. I don't think the books would have been nearly as popular if all she did was borrow, which is what Petty might have you believe.
Re: Harry Potter
Im sitting on the fence with this one Il just have to read HP before Ive got an opinion one way or another ! best to stay neutral I guess

Well if you want to, the first book is fairly short, so it's not a huge investment of time.

Re: Harry Potter
do try one Azriel. the first one is quite short and it feels simpler and childlike than the next ones, they get progressively more complex. The books are much better than the last four films, Yates ruined the magic. although the first films did conjure up the lovely feeling of seeing Diagon Alley and Hogwarts very well, and the casting was perfect.

I am very fond of Harry Potter. I borrowed the books from my boyfriend's sister. She was 11 then I think. Got all the books of course.
I've always liked how the books grow with the readers, and it feels natural that we don't know more than the characters in the book does.
