I'm going to college in a week, and I'm freaking out a bit. This is my way of avoiding the anxiety attack threatening to surface and keep my mind off of said attack
So I'm back again! After unexpectedly leaving again...

If it makes you feel any better, I think everyone freaks out at the thought of going to College/University no matter how old you are or how many times you do it. I needed valium the first week of Uni, I was 24/7 panic attackcity, its hard emotionally to leave everything comfortable behind. Imagine you are Frodo going to Mordor or Bilbo going on an adventure, it will give you strength and comfort. It worked for me, everytime I was engulfed in terror i would read a chapter and everything would seem do-able.

Just remember that the majority of the other students will be freaking out too, even if they don't show it The first few days may seem a little chaotic as everything is new, but it'll quickly become easier, and when you get to know the people you'll hang out with for years to come, it'll suddenly be great

Re: Holidays and absences
Hey everyone. We moved from the campsite to a hotel (still close to the beach) for the final phase of the vacation. In a few days I'll be back home and my summer will basically be over. I'll try to catch up on everything that's happened on the forum then but I wanted to say hi right now.
Re: Holidays and absences
Congratulations on starting such a big journey, Tin! I assume you're going to live on campus? Going to college is a great experience. You're really lucky you're able to and I hope that you enjoy it. Are you going to be a long way from home?Tinuviel wrote:I'm going to college in a week, and I'm freaking out a bit. What have you been doing for the past five days then?
NB I won't suggest you do anything strenuous to mark your 20,000th post, but I wanted to note that its almost here so that you don't just zip past it unnoticed.

Re: Holidays and absences
We'll be heading back home to Maryland this afternoon, so it's the end of my summer vacationing. It's been a nice (if kinda long) trip. Unfortunately I don't have a ton of stories or pictures to share this time around, although I did get a girl's number after she noticed me staring at her huge rack.
Re: Holidays and absences
Everyone likes a holiday rack.
Although shows how things have changed, when I was your age a good way of NOT getting a girls number was to stare lustfully at her chest (and lets face it, there is no other way to stare at a huge rack).
This must be modern feminsim or something, what with you being a new man and all Eldo.

Re: Holidays and absences
Yep, I'm clearly in the wrong generation.
The old feminism was to almost deny being a woman. You could get smacked just for mentioning that someone was a woman.
The new feminism is to revel in being female, and use it to good effect. But they do it for funzies, not because they think they have to. Much healthier I think.

Re: Holidays and absences
Yes, but oddly, the upshot of it that women put their bodies on display to be ogled at far more than they ever did when men were supposedly exploiting them to.
And its not just the usual stuff- like celebs (I mean that in the modern loose usage of the word) in photo-shoots and pop videos simulating sexual acts in dance moves whilst wearing only their underwear- you only need to open a tabloid newspaper to see they also tweet pics of themselves on holiday in their bikinis or anything thats vaguely provocative - usually focusing on their bodies rather than anything else.
Now whilst Im all for women wanting to pose semi naked as often as possible I do find modern feminism therefore a bit of a puzzler- we have groups here in the UK who on the one hand want to ban page 3 images from newspapers- and who on the other hand maintain a women's right to dress in the manner once reserved for street prostitutes and to display themselves publicly if they wish on social networking sites.
At the same time there is an aggressive feminist led campaign going on against abuse towards women- a soap star just got fired due to a feminist led backlash because a year before he was hired he was in a band with abusive lyrics towards women.
Yet at the same time research on porn site usage among women showed that pornography showing the female being dominated, abused or even fake raped are viewed more often as a percentage of views by women than men. And books like 50 shades of Grey, written by a woman, sells millions on the back of sales to women.
Its an interesting mix, and a bit confusing really. I'm not sure modern feminism really knows what its message is supposed to be any more.

Yep, I can see how confusing it all is for guys ! I know where I stand, I know my own morals & gripes & am sticking to it. Im one thats kinda honest & true to my values, A woman should be feminine for a start, Clothes extenuate & compliment ones self as does a touch of make up, There's shed loads that bother me but, Is it cos Im from a different generation ? I dont give a fook which generation really, I am who I am & will stick to my morals, my conscience & my values

Re: Holidays and absences
The problem if your male is knowing what is and is not acceptable.
Even simple things- I'm of a generation that was taught to get up on a bus and offer a woman your seat if there are no others available, to hold a door open for a women, even to pass a woman on the pavement on the outside-just in case some maniac tries to swerve onto the pavement so I will be in the way shielding the woman!
Doing any or all of these things can now be seen as sexist and patronising. But only some of the time, and there is no way of finding out which is which until you do it!
