Re: Holidays and absences
Isn't that what women have always done though...
'When I said you could go, I didnt mean you could actually go...'
In my opinion, women get away with far too much so far as clothing is concerned. If they wear a top that is revealing from the angle that I am looking then I will bloody look!!

Re: Holidays and absences
To be honest Lance, I dont blame you, its part of your DNA.anyway ! Women can wear something nice, that makes them look feminine & save the Sultry stuff for later, with the RIGHT person, much more fun & sexy ! Will probably lead to a better relationship also ! IMO, some girls today have so lost the look of a woman, they look like tarts ! there, Ive said it ! If I like men to look like men (& a good suit, white shirt, tie & even cufflinks Plus "Fahrenheit" aftershave by Dior is a turn on !) then, surely, shouldnt men like women to be WOMEN ??

You wouldnt like me then... I hate suits. Dont ever clean shave. Haven't had short, neat hair for a long time.
Re: Holidays and absences
I find this whole discussion is part of the 'Backlash' against Feminism that has been going on since the 80s. Feminists gained hard won rights for women in the 60s and 70s, and then when we thought we were getting a Golden age of equality men cottoned on to the only way of shutting us up, and they started to ridicule and put out disparaging comments like feminists are all ball breaking man haters with hairy top lips. Feminist and feminism became a joke, a byword for Rad Fem dyke, and any woman daring to call herself feminist was pidgeon holed as a figure of fun, women started to feel ashamed of standing up and saying she was feminist, specially as woman like to be seen as feminine and not being type cast as dungaree wearers. Feminism became only for 'strident' females not for girlie girls who like cock. women hid there embarassing secret, feminism has NOTHING to do with the current trend for over sexualized celebs showing their arse crack on fb. Its got nothing to do with semi naked celebs because they ARE NOT feminists, they are air heads who have bought into the current fashions for ever more extreme vulgarity in the quest for fame. The y dont know what feminism means nor do they care. Instead normal women look on this with unease and fear for the future. Half the world in a burkah and the other half showig their bits to the lads. A Whole generation is afraid of admitting they are feminist in case some unreconstructed neandertal calls them ugly dykes and its time to call a halt before its too late.

Re: Holidays and absences
Women have come full circle, but with a new interpretation.
The modern woman had to be liberated enough that she can demand the spanking she wants, whereas before it could be seen as demeaning. It's the same with clothes: decades ago sexually overt dress was seen as pandering to men, now it's a woman using it by her own choice as a way to exert power over men.
I kind of wonder how things have gone in the Latino countries which always had much stronger defined gender roles. The modern latino woman seems even more secure in her gender roles and sexuality than western women, but I don't know if they always had that or if the revolution was more of a hidden undercurrent there.

Re: Holidays and absences
But Mrs Figg if you were say that to these women, that they are fame hungry air heads- and I am not just talking d list celeb here- I am talking international level- Beyonce, Spears, Cyrus ect they would tell you they are empowered women doing what they want to do and making a good living for themselves and their families out of doing so. They would say it is feminism in action. It is their body and if they wish to exploit it for profit that is their choice as a woman to do so.
It seems to me that if this is feminism it is a belief system lacking in any sense of moral perspective.

Re: Holidays and absences
Taking the example of a few A list clebs like Beyonce is totally mistaken, they may think they are feminists but they are not, they have used their assets for cash basically, they are only strong because they are rich not because they are feminist, Riannah was beaten so much by her boyfriend that she went to hospital, thats not a strong woman its a victim of domestic violence. Mostly these women from poor backgrounds who gain fame use the strong female shtick to get a fan base from Young girls who emulate them and are hoodwinked into thinking showing your arse in public equates freedom, it doesnt it equates looking like a slapper and getting treated like one.
As regards the ridicule issue for any woman daring to stand up to this dangerous double standard, there is not much difference between a Victorian man calling a Suffragette a man hating hysterical whore and a journalist from The Sun calling a woman who politely disagrees with page 3 girls a feminist dyke.

Re: Holidays and absences
I was pretty sure that my anecdote would get a response from the usual suspects (men who complain about women) on here, but I really didn't intend to provoke a discussion about feminism like this.
In any event, the girl whose number I got was actually the one who started talking to me after each of us noticed the other was looking. But when you run around half-naked (or more) in a swimsuit on a public beach, then you (man or woman) probably realize that other people might look at you.

Re: Holidays and absences
There's quite a lot that I agree with Mrs Figg over ! Strong women are sometimes quiet women, they ooze confidence & dont conform to the so called "norm" thats banded about these days. I have pride, Im proud of being a woman, I take pride in my appearance when I go out, I watch my words (ie,not swear & speak like a chav!) Im polite etc. I believe woman (AND men) can & should be romantic. I DONT expect men to abuse me because my tits are to small or my tum is flabby or my arm pits are hairy, I DONT expect men to oogle my arse or boobs & think they have the absolute right to touch me & slag me off cos i wont "put out"! Ok, lets turn it around, what if we had a page 3 GUY ? every day all you see is his tackle drooping at you ? (or,God help me, raised !) Men wearing a Borat mankini on stage, gyrating to a raunchy song ? Everything these women are doing. How long would you like that ?

Re: Holidays and absences
In fact what pisses me off is, that certain women dont care, they dont care about themselves, they dont care they are women. There's no self pride. Men laugh & oogle naked women but, these girls have a mum & dad, they werent born slappers, they go that way, often thru no self worth of themselves. praps they think "show a tit, get £100!" ? I dont know ? but Il never stoop to any degrading level that demeans me as a woman.

Re: Holidays and absences
I watch an interesting (from an anthropological point of view) tv show at the moment, it takes these slappers caked in makeup and fake tan and turns them into ladylike girls. The girls wear thongs to discos and start off all gobby and girl power, but once the slap is washed off they turn into shy and nice girls with not a lot of self confidence, a lot of them truly believe they are ugly without the mask of makeup and hair extensions. Its a crying shame how these poor girls have been twisted by all the garbage they see in magazines and on tv, they look like cheap Jordan clones, and they do it to feel attractive to men to feel pretty, its sad.

Re: Holidays and absences
This is at the peak of the feminism debate right now in the U.S.
The unrated version of this video is with all the girls topless! I'd say I hate the song if it wasn't so damn catchy

Re: Holidays and absences
Since you asked ... I'm not sure I completely follow everything you're saying, but speaking more generally than just sexualized clothing I'm uncomfortable with the idea that women should "act like women" and men should "act like men".
Re: Holidays and absences
is it fitting that I write on the absences thread? I think so.

Re: Holidays and absences
From a male perspective this whole topic is fraught with dangers and pitfalls!
But Ive never let that stop me in the past!
It seems to me something is fundamentally wrong with womens idea of women.
The question then is who to blame- you Mrs Figg put a proportion of blame on the media- on page 3, on slappers and falling out of dresses to get in the paper ect- but when in the past feminists could point to men and cry exploitation, now its women doing these things, women posting pics of themselves on the web, sending them to their partners on phones, choosing to dress in provocative clothing ect
The girls growing up now are probably not modelling their ideas of what a woman is on Jocelyn Burnell (astrophyscists discovered first pulsar and first female president of institute of physics) or the next Jeannette Ears (astronaut) they want to be Beyonce, Miley Cyrus, Jordan, Paris Hilton ect
And its not men doing this- its women doing this- given the equality feminists fought generations for women have used it to present themselves in this way- as a primarily sexual creature who uses sexuality and looks to get what they want and to make money.
It worse han anything men were doing to you.
Squach!!!

Re: Holidays and absences
Interesting you should post that vid Tin. Watching a top 40 countdown on the telly yesterday a number of songs weren't shown as they weren't 'family friendly' but that one was. I commented to squach at the time that it was odd that girls in their underwear and wrapped in plastic was family friendly, even worse when you listen to the lyrics.

Seems to be there's something fundamentally wrong with the implication that an entire gender can be generalized as having a single (or even similar) view(s).Pettytyrant101 wrote:It seems to me something is fundamentally wrong with womens idea of women.
