Holidays and absences

Thanks for the well-wishes, guys. Our flight went smoothly and we were enjoying the brand new water park at the resort here. It's late though so I've gotta go to bed so I'm rested for HP World tomorrow.

Hope your having fun Eldo- but HP World? Luckily for me I can just take the train!

NB They tried to capture the Scottish setting of the books by having fake snow and icicles on the buildings, but the effect was sort of ruined by the roasting-hot sun this morning. The torrential downpour in the afternoon was more fitting, though.

We dont get much snow  

They want it like Scotland have a fake ceiling you can put fake huge black cloud about 4 foot above your head, spray a fine mist of water constantly, and every so often turn it right up and put on a huge wind machine so it blows in your face, and occasionally take the fake clouds away and release swarms of midges, whilst a ned drinking buckfast says in a nasal whine, "haha check those yankies, yi bunch o' fannies. Gies yir money fir buckie pal or Ill chib yi ya c**t" - thats a Scottish experience

Shitloads. I don't know how well they all turned out though since they were taken on various phones and it got dark towards the end. I'll move all the good ones to my computer and do a write-up some time soon (not necessarily tonight though).

I went through the pictures we took on three different people's phones today and uploaded 49 pictures to my Facebook page.  For people who I have friended there (which is quite a few of you guys) they're all in an album called "Harry Potter/Universal Orlando".  I'll post my favorites along with descriptions sometime later since it's almost midnight and I've taxed the hotel's Internet enough for one day.

Edit: Actually, FB lets me link to just the album publicly, so everyone can see the pictures here. They're in a rough order of when they were taken, but I went back at the end of the day to take a bunch more so they'll hopefully be more coherent once I've rearranged them all and added notes.

I only had a limited amount of money to spend there (the park is kind of designed around getting people to buy things) and I had my eye on a Ravenclaw hoodie. Amusing anecdote: right after we walked in, I heard some random frustrated mom telling her kid that she was not going to buy "an overpriced piece of wood".

I liked the album on face. i think the fake snow looked good. sort of.

Yeah, I thought it looked pretty realistic, but it was definitely out of place with the heat. After the rain when there was water dripping from all the roofs it felt more realistic though, like it had snowed recently and was now melting.

It was called Hogsmeade on all the signs and was mimicking the design of Hogsmeade in the films, but they had a few Diagon Alley shops thrown in their as well.  It certainly had the "looking everywhere at once" element of Diagon Alley down the first time I walked through.

btw what does Butterbeer taste like?

Like cream soda, with a thick vanilla foam on top.  The foam part is added separately from the rest of the drink so they don't sell it in bottles.  They serve it in cold and frozen varieties (I got cold).  It's pretty good, but not something I'd drink regularly.

Visiting was a lot of fun, I'd definitely recommend it to any Harry Potter fans who have the opportunity.

 well.. the wand isn't wood, i can tell u that, but it feels really real and it is really excellently done, with them all being different and fitting for their characters:D (i have one, snape's)
the raven claw hoodie is a good choice, you'd be in ravenclaw for sure  i dunno what house i'de fit in..

that's nothing what i had imagined it would taste like... i thought it would be similar to ginger ale or something.

They are building diagon alley in the park next door. The one that is there already is supposed to be hogsmead.

The pictures looked great, Eldo, looked like a lot of fun
