Because it's just a variant of rugby football that has gone off on its own direction due to the cultural and geographical distance from countries where association football is more popular. It's the same reason that Australia, Canada, and Ireland also have their own versions of the game that they also simply call "football".

Edit: this response works to Petty's most recent post too.

it's called isolation. never a good thing.

You just dont like that Ive cracked your cultural code Eldo! Twisted Evil

And I still dont get how Americans can often support more than one team- how are you ever going to get proper crowd violence with that sort of attitude?

Amarie- you missed out that the crapest team always wins the Super Bowl- so long as they have been downtrodden, written off as underdogs but show pluck and courage. If the whole team can be from the same orphanage so much the better. Nod

That's because sporting events in America are usually frequented by mature adults. Sometimes they even bring their children along. Nod

Yeah, thank God for that! Also, we must not mention that the quarterback on the evil team is dating the underdog-quarterback's dream girl.

okay. I know we snow people tend to tease americans and brits and you name it for just loosing it completely when it snows and yeah, no road grip and everything? well.. there has been three buschrashes here this week.. two of them in film (linking them). though in defence, there are only foregin or southerners bussdrivers so they don't know a thing about snow or putting chains (chains? correct?) on the tires.

I loved the northern bus drivers! The strangest ride was the tour bus from Honningsvag to Nordcapp in a heavy snowfall about this time of year. It was 30 or 40 km with no road visible at all Shocked . A large snowplow carved a road ahead of us for all but the first few km, and when we came back an hour later they had to carve a new road for us for us to get back to the ferry. All the time it was dark (of course) and snowing heavily so you could barely see the lights on the snowplow ahead. I think the driver was mostly driving by feel. Shocked

The road was newly plowed and a there was a light to follow ahead. Generally that bit comes after:
"It was snowing like crazy and the roads were slippery, but ...."
Then the other Fjordian would go: "Oh, so no trouble then."
