So it's more or less accepted to chain any small furry animal to your privates and call it a sporran then? Shocked

Actually I could use some pointers on this. A friend's wedding is coming up at which there will be kilts. I've got a passable kilt and hose, but the sporran looks like it came from a Mexican fleemarket. I'm sure I can make something better. Could you post some pictures of what you consider appropriate and what ridiculous? (When you get done with the new edit of course!)

An important question David- which sporran?

Well you could go traditional which is a basic leather pouch sporran-

Tales of Home [1] - Page 18 Lr-tan-bt-leather-sporran-lge

But as its a wedding you want something a bit more formal.

Tales of Home [1] - Page 18 MSF1022

If the participants are part of the military youmight want to go with a horsehair sporran, usually associated with army regiments-

Tales of Home [1] - Page 18 Sporran_kilt_1397724c

You will note however the tassles are MANDATORY!

My sister once dressed up as a scotsman, she e wore like this long rather cool punk-skirt (in wool Shocked ) but it looked like a kil. but she didn't have all the rest so: the sporran was a sami-ish bag of reindeer hair, her shoe area was cowboy boots and she had this hat that reminded you a bit of scotland. It was really good actually.

The kilt is perfect for the cold, its layered, its made of wool, its water proof and in an emergency you can unroll it and sleep in it.
And thats not a blouse!!! Its a special type of shirt worn witht the kilt. Mad

Those Amarie look suspicoulsy like they are for the ladies. Suspect And they cant be sporrans- they've not got tassles!

special type of shirt? if you say so.- Mrs Figg

Its called a Ghillie shirt- ghillies were original the attendant to a Highland Chief, they took care of his lands, protected his personal being and were his messengers Billy Connollys character in Mrs Brown was a ghillie.
It was once a honoured and admired position.
These days ghillies tend to be employed by landowners to manage estates and hunting.

I thought you'd approve of such a shirt on a man Mrs Figg, perhaps these will change your mind-

I am sure your artistic eye Mrs Figg will easily see the connection via the Auld Alliance between Scotland and France.

You hang them on the back of the wardrobe door- I recommend a hook but a nail would do.

Auld Alliance between France and Scotland?
These are the blouses that sent grown men to Madame Guillotine due to extreme foppishness with cheese on top.

But I do like the shirts, they are quite Romantical looking. Cool I bet Thorin Oakenshield would wear one.

I still want to see a piccy of you in your kilt Petty. Basketball

Wow, until I saw this I never would have realized that was Billie Connolly in the role. It's just so out of character.

sun going down at 4 pm is so wrong. I'd almost move to the far end of a time zone just to avoid such barbarity.

You can grow palm trees along our west coast, the Gulf Stream goes right passed it bringing lots of warm water and loads of handy nutrients that gives us abundant marine life.
Now the east coast and the North Sea, thats another story. Lets just say they cant grow palm trees.

Longer and brighter days are very welcome!

Here the sun sets in summer (at least the calendar says it's summer, the weather tends to disagree), but it is still quite bright at night. Funny how we don't have to go further south than Oslo to get noticeably darker evenings and nights.

Travelling south to Croatia and such makes it much easier to put the kids to bed as it actually gets dark in the evening.
