Re: Tales of Home [1]
Thanks Tin. We've already cleared everything out of the yard and stocked up on essentials so we should be okay. My fingers are crossed that we don't lose power though, since if we do it could be a week until it comes back. And we could also get snow.
I'm hoping that Uni classes will get cancelled on Monday, but my school is notoriously stingy about closing for weather. I can't just skip coming in either because I have a midterm exam on Monday evening. I may send an e-mail to the professor tonight asking about rescheduling the exam.

It definitely is. The cloud cover in that picture stretches from Miami to Boston, and the extent of the tropical storm-strength winds is being reported as about 700 miles (which is less than the cloud cover but still bad).

Re: Tales of Home [1]
they call it frankenstorm here..
Stay safe and drink lots of coco I love storms, but this is a bit extreme, I just hope everyone's gonna be okay and that no lives will be taken. Houses and all can be repaired and rebuild, but loosing someone.. I can't imagine. Stay safe, loosing power isn't all that bad, Life just slows a bit down, I am sure your uni will understand and all

It's in the same photo Dave posted, but the dog is way off to the side. If your monitor has a low resolution the entire image might not be displayed. Try viewing the image directly. >link<
If that doesn't work I'm not sure what's up.

They're saying Frankenstorm here too because there's apparently a winter storm from the north that is going to collide with the Hurricane, or something. Unfortunately several dozen people have already died, mainly in Haiti and Cuba, where the hurricane passed through a couple days ago. Hopefully there won't be anymore.
Re: Tales of Home [1]
A storm of such magnitude Eldo should produce a crabbit reaction of equal magnitude.
A chance to be crabbit about the storm, about the roads, opportunities to rant crabbitedly at the power companies, at your uni- everything and anyone in fact should feel the storm crabbit wrath.
And when the storm comes it should find you out on your porch in a rocker holding a small umbrella, with a buckie in the other hand, spare barrels at the ready screaming "Come on then you bastard! Is this all you've got?!"
Hope that helps Eldo.

Re: Tales of Home [1]
There was this Native American boy who was
confused so this is what he asked his mother:
Mom, why is my brother's name Windstorm?
She answered: Because he was conceived during
a wind storm.
Well, why is my sister's name Moon-shine? She
answered again: Because she was conceived when
the moon was shining.
The poor little boy looked sad and confused.
His mother said, ''Why are you so sad and confused
Brokenrubber?''

Re: Tales of Home [1]
It's been overcast here all day but the cloud cover is thickening and it's also started spitting. More worryingly, a tree has already fallen over a couple of houses down the street. If it had fallen the other direction, it would have taken out the power lines before the storm really even reached us.

How secure are your servers, Eldo? Last winter's storm took down power for a few days. Many stores and gas stations with necessary supplies had backup generators, but they couldn't open for business because the network that recorded barcode sales was down.

I'm not sure about the local stores, but they don't usually lose power for very long. However, my house is at the very end of our power line (and the neighborhood in general is near the end of the corridor of development in this part of the county) so we're usually among the last ones to have power restored. Last year we were one of like a dozen houses that were without power for a week longer then the people on the other side of the street.

Just noticed this ... do they not have cranberrries in Europe?

Hopefully not, especially since I don't have to drive 20 miles to get to Uni. Though I celebrate every time classes get cancelled, it's just habit at this point.
Re: Tales of Home [1]
nope, no Cranberries in Europe. Its good stuff and I love the taste, and its great for the bladder. very gentle for the wee tubes and plumbing.
