Well come on- if the best thing to happen your entire life is being sent to school and forced to learn stuff you havent tried hard enough to have fun.

Re: Tales of Home [1]
I only liked 3 subjects so it was tough. English lit, art and history, i was pretty much top of the class in those. the rest was boring. I was retarded at stuff like maths and chemistry I was basically bottom of the class in those, basically all the logical sensible stuff that gets you jobs. the teachers couldnt understand whether I was taking the piss or not, cos when I say retarded in maths its like counting on my fingers bad. they thought I was either lazy or cheating in the other subjects but you cant cheat in those subjects so I got in trouble a lot. the teachers didnt like not understanding the weirdness.

It should be evident that people can have totally different skill levels in totally different subjects. My mom says she memorized her way through algebra, which seems to me to be the hard way to do it....

haha, well, she propbably learned something. Our history and norwegian lit. teatcher has a twin. They used to split homework, so the twin would do all the science and maths and stuff and she'd do like language and history. That's why she is a bioligy teatcher and she teaches history they both were at school today (dunno why her sister doesn't usually work there). they had to give us a warning, because they are identical (i don't think they are that similar though)

I met this fairly often when working as a TA in pre-calc classes, especially in biology students who like categories. You've actually got to have very good memorization skills because you're identifying and memorizing over 100 different cases. The trouble is it all breaks down if you're asked to apply it to anything.

the local radio has spent literally the whole day on the case of a man being denied access to the gym because his sweat smelt so bad. they even interviewd a proffesor.
Re: Tales of Home [1]
I am glad to hear that teachers are more clued up about differences these days, they pick up on things like dislexia however you spell it.
but seriously I was taught by nuns. Two problems. I am Protestant, and I write with my left hand, in those days I was dangerously close to a good dunking in the duck pond to see if I floated or not.
I did float.

Re: Tales of Home [1]
hope you got air conditioning at home Chris. i dont and it sucks when its in the 40s. All we do is shut the house up with the wooden shutters and wait for it to go dark, then it gets down to 30 degrees you can go outside. and in the Winter its freezing, like it is now. do you get bad Winters in Perth?

I dont know what is worse boiling or freezing. At least when its freezing you can put another jumper on, when its hot theres no escape.

Re: Tales of Home [1]
nah, when it's cold you feel like your life is seriously threatened, when hot you just take cool showers and doze off.
