Holy crap, though I expected Pennsylvania I hardly expected Georgia would come first. Now if the remaining ballots in North Carolina come in at 71% for Biden I'll enjoy myself a nice cup of smug.

{{ Technically yes yeah can still win, but its a very narrow path. If he manages to take pens, N Carolina and Georiga, where he is numerically still in with a shout. Thatd put him on 262 so he'd need to take Nevada or Arizona too to put him over the top and thats not looking likely.
Alternatively if he wins Arizona and Nevada (unlikely but not technically impossible) he gathers up 17 electoral votes putting him on 231, so he'd still need at least two of the others to put him over the top.}}

Mathematically possible Trump could still win.  Statistically unlikely.  

And the statistics we have now are much better than what we had before the election.

There is no clear path in the constitution nor precedent for what to do if a president refuses to honor the results of an election. There is precedent for recounts, but after that, the precedent is for an honorable man (recently Al Gore) to accept the results.

That last case was an amazing demonstration of honor - as democratic delegations in the Senate presented petitions to reject the vote, and Al Gore as constitutional president of the Senate systematically rejected them all on procedural grounds. It was truly breathtaking.

It seems he's worth almost nothing, so she'd get nothing from it. He can keep manufacturing the semblance of being rich but it only benefits his family. She'd only marry a man like him for the lifestyle - I doubt there was ever any love.

I think we all needed some good news and it looks like Biden has it in the bag. Thank goodness.

yep, his leads have continued to build this afternoon, and the gap in North Carolina is closing. It looks like a lock for 36 points above the needed 270. This would put Biden with 2 electoral votes higher than what Trump had in 2016, which would be very, very sweet. And if North Carolina brings it home it will be a blowout.

Trump's term ends on January 20th right?

By Georgia state law if the difference is less than 0.5% they must do a recount. Votes must be certified by Dec 10 throughout the nation, so there's built-in wiggle room for this type of stuff.

I don't know if Pennsylvania has such a law, but they are close enough I don't think they'd refuse a request to recount.

{{ Watched a lot of the US coverage last night on their networks, and I have to say I was impressed at the pushback each state still counting gave to Trumps claims of corruption and fraud.
They generally handled it very well, in Philidelphia (I think, may have been Georgia) they had the Mayor, the Head of the City Council, the Chief of Police and the person in charge of the vote counting. One by one they all countered or condemend openly Trumps reckless accusations, and the electoral representive and organisers laid out in fine detail how each step of the process worked in their state. The same was true of those who spoke in Georgia, where again we got a clear and detailed explanation of how their state does the verifying, counting and all the rest.

And you know what I was genuinely impressed by the high level of safe guards built it at every single stage of the process. From observers in the local postal offices as ballots come in, to everything having to be signed off at every stage by obervers, ID verifications and the like. There are checks and in some cases double checks on every single step and stage, including and especially verification.
This doesnt of course mean no ballots that should have been excluded might not get through, there is always the room for error in any massive machine. But fraud, delibrate and on the scale Trump suggests is all but impossible.
You would have to have active participants in several states at once, at every level operating in different but stringent state processes, all actively trying to committ the fraud. That would be hundreds if not thousands of people. Including in at least one case the Republicans who run the state currently. Its just not feasible.

But its interesting overall that at the bottom of the process, the mailing, the votes, the verification, the counting, there are so many good safe guards upon safe guards, yet the further up the chain you go and the more power there is to be had, the less and less safe guards there seem to be. }}

So, hypothetically speaking if Trump is announced to be the definite looser and continues to refuse to concede all the way through to January, is there a chance Pence and the remaining members of his cabinet could do the 25th amendment on him and announce they fell he is no longer able to safely do the job as president?

I really wouldn't put it past Pence to bail on Trump at the last minute in an attempt to save face...
