The international dateline is more confusing to me than timezones. If the new day starts at midnight on the dateline, then the sun is roughly noon in Britain. So the sun is noon of the previous day, which means daybreak is even earlier the previous day which means longer to wait for the new day even though it's closer to midnight and...and....it's like you have to keep track of two midnights even though there's only one on earth at any one time and...

Happy new everything, Amarie!
We finally got mulled wine in our neighborhood, which I'm sure is commonplace on the other side of the pond but has always been a novelty here. So I had a cup at one of these outdoor pavilions every cafe has built for covid (that was basically my New Year's celebration), and now intend to buy a magnum bottle of red wine and some oranges so I can make my own to carry me through the cold months. Much better than hot cider, I think.

Well, three days in! I've been up in Davis with my girl for the last week. We had fondue and sangria for New Years. Watched a little of the count-down in New York because she wanted to. I can't complain. Seems like this new year is going quite well so far.
