Very nice! Being a red-head myself I deal with the sun by straw hats. But I take it Scotland is rather lacking in straw hats.

{{Indeed- the English are rather keen on them you see- straw boaters and the like, so obviously a true and proud Scot would never wear something English but show our defiance of all things empirical yolky by dropping dead of skin cancer! That shows 'em!!! Petty if you ever go to Pastalandia you are going to need a large sombrero so you can keep your kilt out of the sun, all that crust may make it spontaneously combust. No

...and DONT go in August. its horrible. even July is pushing it, the climate has got worse over the last couple of years, it was 45 degrees with humidity it felt like 49 degrees, that's 120 like walking into a sweaty oven, in the middle of August. total nightmare. unless of course you are in the mountains over 1000 feet and then its ok.

February is ok, its a bit like the UK at that time of year, but maybe 5-10 degrees warmer depending on which bit of Pastalandia it is. The very best time is April, May, September and October. Worst is January, July and August, very worstly worstest is August. There are no Italians in Pastalandia in August, they all leave. its just tumbleweed and tourists gently frying..

{{Spring is good- reasonable chance of decent weather and no midges- from now till August its midge season so going to have to put up with the little buggers till then Evil or Very Mad - after that your pretty much fine. Personally I like December/January/Febuary for camping round here. Its cold yes but you can wrap up against that and have a fire and a drop of buckie, but you tend to get completely clear starry nights that makes it all worth it.  Nod }}

{{{ Friend filmed this-

https://www.facebook.com/lindsay.wallace.944/videos/2039227689439504/

You might by now be wondering on the wisdom of a kilt to wear in a country invested with these little buggers every summer.
And thats probably because when I say kilt you're thinking of something like this-

Tales of Home [9] - Page 5 JMJ_1955_Edit_600x_2x

now this fine fellow (eyes on the kilt!!! Mad ) has no chance of making it across a midgie invested heather clad hillside without his balls getting chewed till they are redder than my arse was that time Pretty tied me to the barbecue, and swollen larger than Pretty's last implants were. This kilt is midgie hell- which is why no-one actually wore one of these back in the day.

They wore one of these- a true plaid kilt- the great kilt as modelled by these historical types and their beards!

Tales of Home [9] - Page 5 KRGK_Great_Kilt_Celtic_Croft_1500px_7

Tales of Home [9] - Page 5 Mac_Leod_R_R_Mc_Ian

Tales of Home [9] - Page 5 U9f_Gbu_CH0rg

These sort have a hell of a lot of material in them and full of pleats, you can wear them pretty much as you like, they can be folded so as to have carrying layers like cloth bags, hoods, complete face wrap (for the midgies) and of course you can 'nappy' it and what with all the folds and pleats in the cloth there's little chance of the midgie finding its way through and at night its more than large enough when unrolled to completely encase you for sleeping. }}}
