This was back in the beginning of the year when we had that nasty cold snap. Rain washed up from cars froze on the branches.

There's this thing on the Tolkien Society FB group (and probably elsewhere) called a shelfie where people post pictures of their Tolkien book/movie collections on their bookshelves. I was at my mom's house yesterday for the first time in a while (which went okay, fortunately) to pick up my suit and while I was there I took a photo of my bookcase. (Well, part of it: there are another two shelves at the top which are out of frame plus another shelf in my closet and a bunch more books stacked underneath that.)

Tales of Home [9] - Page 3 IWNYruRh

A key to just the Tolkien (and Tolkien movie)-related stuff in this shot:

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey EE (DVD)
JRRT Companion and Guide: Chronology (1st ed)
JRRT Companion and Guide: Reader's Guide (1st ed)
The Lord of the Rings: A Reader's Companion
The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien
Two back issues of Mythlore that I got for free at the 2016 NY Tolkien Conference
Four mass market paperbacks originally from a box set (my first ever Tolkien books):
- The Hobbit
- The Fellowship of the Ring
- The Two Towers
- The Return of the King
HoMe IX: Sauron Defeated (hardcover)
HoMe X: Morgoth's Ring (hardcover)
HoMe XI: The War of the Jewels (hardcover)
HoMe XII: The Peoples of Middle-earth (hardcover)
Arda Reconstructed by Doug Kane
Interrupted Music by Verlyn Flieger
When a Fan Hits the Shit by Jeanine Renne, which is a book about Tolkien fandom
The Real Middle-earth by Michael Muhling, which I received as a review copy
Myths & Middle-earth by Leslie Ellen Jones, which was a gift from my first girlfriend
The Lord of the Rings and Philosophy, which is part of a series of such books
Tolkien on Film (ed. Janet Brennan Croft)
The Lord of the Rings: 50th Anniversary Edition (deluxe hardcover edition)
A box set of:
- The Hobbit 70th anniversary edition (hardcover)
- The History of The Hobbit, Part 1
- The History of The Hobbit, Part 2
The Annotated Hobbit
The Children of Húrin
The Legend of Sigurd and Gudrun
Tolkien: A Biography by Humphrey Carpenter
HoMe I: The Book of Lost Tales, Part 1 (mass market paperback)
HoMe II: The Book of Lost Tales, Part 2 (mass market paperback)

Bilbo's Last Song (stand-alone edition illustrated by Pauline Baynes)
The Rough Guide to The Lord of the Rings
Bored of the Rings by the Harvard Lampoon
The Journeys of Frodo by Barbara Strachey
The Atlas of Middle-earth (2nd ed) by Karen Wynn Fonstad
A number of photocopies I made in 2016 from:

The Music of The Lord of the Rings Films by Doug Adams
The Lord of the Rings: The Making of the Movie Trilogy by Brian Sibley
The Lord of the Rings: Weapons and Warfare by Chris Smith

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King EE (DVD)

I've missed having room for lots of books ever since moving away but being back there yesterday really drove the feeling home and I've been getting all nostalgic. Razz There's something about having books present even if you don't open them every day, at least for me. I used to have more of my collection here at my dad's house but the stacks on the floor were making it hard to move around in my already small room so when I decided to semi-retire from serious Lore stuff a couple years ago I took them back to my mom's.

Your right, books & plants, they make the place cosy, make it home. As soon as I get a book, new or 2nd hand, I have to flick the pages. Just enjoy that inky papery smell Smile

Great Tolkien Collection Eldo, I have quite a few of the books you do (and some you don't) but probably won't post a picture (at least not at the current point in time), as I don't actually have my own bookcase, a few of my Tolkien books are mixed in with the other family hardbacks, but most of my Tolkien collection (and most of my books in general) resides in a few airtight boxes under my bed which wouldn't make for a very exciting photo... (though Petty may be interested in my nearing completion collection of The Eighth Doctor Adventures paperback novels, at my last count I had almost 60 of the 73...)

Also I raised a smile at the Eisenhorn and The Founding omnibus's (as well as what appears to be a scattering of Horus Heresy novels), never figured you to be a 40k fan, I briefly dabbled in the tabletop game in my youth, but I had neither the skill, finances or patience to play or collect the models, though I've always enjoyed the lore of the universe and I'm a huge fan of Dan Abnett's Inquisitor and Gaunt's Ghosts series (currently re-reading The Eisenhorn saga in fact...)

Me and my girlfriend recently hit the 4th month mark since our first date, and things are going great, so far she's been the only one...but I have a feeling she may be the one if you know what I mean...almost scary how similar our personalities, values and interests are, never imagined falling in love would be quite as time consuming (or fun  Very Happy ) as it has been, so that's my excuse for not popping into the forum that often in recent months, I still like all you guys/girls/drunken scotshobitts honest!

We recently spend the day up in north Somerset (a near 250 mile round trip...glad I wasn't driving!) with one of my relatives, and I did a bit of shopping (which as you will see, was mostly cider!):

It's been hot and humid down here on the south coast, but apparently we are due a huge thundershower over the weekend...
