Regards your camera- does it have any proper camera options like changing the fstop? That will alter the focal length of the lens and how much light gets in- usually if you have nice golden sort of light and you take a picture of it its much paler because you are getting ambient light from the sides outside the frame. Changing to a different fstop position can help reduce bloom and glare from outside the frame, thus preserving the light and colour better in it}}
I have a tiny compact camera which fits into the palm of my hand, its just got a "click on this and here's your photo" setting. I will buy a real one when I have some cash one day. I used to have an Olympus trip, with rolls of film, today its an antique. people cant believe you could spend hours in a dark room, but that's where the magic happens.

That stone fence from Machu Picchu is very cool, I don't remember seeing it. It shows the playfulness the Incans had with stone.

I have a feeling you may be the most well travelled out of forum folk halfy.
We should do a country list/count so we can aspire/be depressed about!
Who first?
Fake edit: Rules are you must have experienced something of the country. A stopover at an airport doesn't count!

My list (by continent/region):
Africa:
- Sierra Leone
- Egypt
- Kenya

- Norway (about 4 hours in Oslo off a conference cruise ship)
- Netherlands
- Switzerland
Asia
- China
Middle East
- Dubai
South America

Re: Tales of Home [8]
Seems like I beat you by a couple in Europe, but I wouldn't say that counts. It's in North America that I passed you, but you beat me in South America.
If we count Europe as 1 (or more if subdivided but we both visited greece and scandinavia), then I'm only 1 up on you.
But since I have about 20 years on you, I'd say you win, easily.

I don't tend to think of them as lists of individual countries, more as long chains connected by stories. Just comparing to your list though Halfy, I don't have any claims to Africa or the Middle East, but I have quite a few more in eastern and northern Europe and a couple more in Asia.

Re: Tales of Home [8]
Awesome pictures, Lance!
Sadly my international travel list is pretty limited.
North America
- USA
- Canada
Europe
- Italy
- Vatican City (which barely counts )
I have been fortunate enough to visit most of the states in the US, though some of them only briefly and most of them east of the Mississippi. My dream of visiting Britain and perhaps striking out across other parts of Europe via train (I have fond memories of the Eurostar in Italy from when I was five) isn't dead yet, though it won't be anywhere in the immediate future.

Re: Tales of Home [8]
the East Coast has just seen the front and back of a small but deep low pressure system: air coming up from the south as it approaches, coming down from the north as it leaves.

Re: Tales of Home [8]
Hmm, interesting lists! Mine isn't as interesting, I'm afraid, but I'll give it a go
The obvious ones:
Sweden
Denmark
Finland
Lithuania
Estonia
Poland
Germany
Italy
Spain
Turkey (few memories from this one, free beers and all that)
Greece
Egypt
USA (California/Nevada)
Ukraine
Ireland
England
Visited some of them several times, and going to London again this summer for a concert. Want to go back to the US as well and see Yellowstone and Grand Canyon. Peru and Machu Picchu is also on the list, but that one is put on hold until my friend's (who I'm going with) kids have grown up a little. New Zealand is high on the list for my next "big" trip. Also really want to tour the countryside of Scotland and Ireland - so many things to do and places to go!

Re: Tales of Home [8]
That 2 more than some people Az.
And yes halfy... Europe is more akin to US states but luckily the UN says otherwise so we can add to our country count!
I would like to get to half of the world's countries by the time is clock off from life. Lots more to go!!

Very few by plane. That list probably looks like:
Germany
Denmark
England
Philippines
Korea
and probably a couple of others if I think back to earlier trips.
I've usually flown to my continent-of-choice the cheapest way possible, and then crossed boarders the old fashioned way by foot, boat, or train as opportunities presented themselves.
