Yes - bring your other halfseses. We've got to scope them out head to toe. The two of you may be almost beside the point.

Re: Tales of Home [8]
And lastly....me
We just had our Lammas Festival here in Eastbourne. It absolutely CRASHED it down with rain ! Ive never ever been out in such a violent downpour. It ruined the day really. A few die hards braved it & some of the stalls were there hoping for a half decent sale but, It stopped the drummers, it stopped the Morris men ( & women) it stopped people coming along & having fun. Gotta wait till next year now, hoping it will be dry & sunny next July !

those costumes are amazing, shame about the rain. Mind you, we have 47 degree heat, 40 in the shade, 116 f, its a bloody inferno, we are as hot as Saudi Arabia. and its going to last at least a week. I cant even escape to the UK because the cats are suffering and they need to be kept indoors, poor buggers.

{{Weather is still crap here. But even so went for a drive today with the better half, we took my mother out for a coffee at a little cafe that also doubles as a mini art gallery for local artists in a place called Blairmore. But whilst we were there the Waverley paddle-steamer pulled in at the small pier there so I grabbed a few pictures }}

Re: Tales of Home [8]
Many moons ago, we had a paddle steamer, called The Waverly that would take bodkins for trips around the coast. That seemed to have died out a long time ago, I found this from my local rag.

Re: Tales of Home [8]
{{ I think that's the earlier original one in the line Azriel. If so it was built in 1899 and was converted into a mine sweeper in WW2 and was lost during the evacuation of Dunkirk.
The current Waverely was built much later that most people think, although the design is Victorian she was actually not built until 1946. Not even 100 yet!
The reason for going with the older design was availability of materials after the war and the suitability of the design for the Scottish west coast routes which had many Victorian built piers designed for such ships (in my own town for example the Waverley still docks at the Victorian pier whereas the modern passenger ferry docks at a modern designed pier slipway next to the original pier which the Waverley could not use and the modern ferry cannot berth at the old pier).
Mind you with the weather of late dont think I'd like to be sailing her out there.
Friends of mine took these two fine pictures capturing the current Scottish summer! }}}

Re: Tales of Home [8]
enjoying some last summerdays. (sorry for all the instgram-filters, but i like it that way)
Re: Tales of Home [8]
Ok the 2nd one is sideways But, I like, clouds. Out of all of the natural happenings clouds are dependable. They are always there. Quietly rounding the world like silent guardians. They are so mundane & trivial to people that we take them for granted & don't even notice them there. What would the sky be like without them. What would we be like without them. Ive seen some beautiful clouds, lovely colours & the size of some of them is amazing

Norc - nice place. Must assume you committed swimmery.
Az - I used to love clouds, then I started studying them. They are the most ill-behaved things you can imagine It's hard to measure them properly because they are so mis-shapen. And good luck trying to predict what any individual cloud's gonna do - they're worse than pre-schoolers. You can try averaging them up, but everything about them is fractal so classical statistics just doesn't apply. All in all they're the damnedest things.

Re: Tales of Home [8]
are u crazy, i took of my shoes and waded a bit, but it was freezing. i fished though. and went around in a boat. and communicated with a toddler. last one was a new experience
Re: Tales of Home [8]
Communicating with toddlers is, as you say, a whole new experience. Depending on age, you have to try & work out what the holy heck they are saying. They are so wrapped up in their own world of 'wonderland' where everything is new to them & them only that they don't listen to a word you say so, just grunt back. That pic looks so nice, just the spot to calm down
