Re: Future releases [2]
the second animated paddington trailer captures the original flavor. The first one has some creative ideas which would have been great if they didn't go overboard. The true Paddington always goes overboard, but in a quiet sort of way; a sense of growing unease rather than panic.

Now that, I really am looking forward to seeing ! The story of Alan Turing. What an amazing man ! And crumblysnatch looks the best guy to portray him

Re: Future releases [2]
another trailer. it kinda annoys me though that it seems there were only one woman presence during the codebreaking, Joan Clarke, but there were actually a lot more.
Re: Future releases [2]
I dont mind if they focus on Clarke, but we see the other women, its possible as its a trailer they just want to focus on the main characters and not secondary ones.

Re: Future releases [2]
yeah, true but there is that little scene when she enters the room with all the men, i am pretty sure there were more women doing that particulalry job.
Re: Future releases [2]
Before computers women were used to analyze cloud chamber tracks, much more than men; so I'm sure they would have been employed in code analysis.

"Crumblysnatch." I thought we had used all the possible permutations up, but they keep coming!

Re: Future releases [2]
i am at least 80% sure there were quite a lot of women analysing data during the codebreaking, but i dunno, maybe they came later..

Yeah I remember learning about the women who worked in codebreaking back when I was on my cryptography binge. We mostly learned about what was going on in the US but I'm pretty sure there were a lot of female codebreakers in the UK too.
Re: Future releases [2]
I think there were a huge amount of unsung ladies that did plenty of behind the scenes stuff that never got a mention, not until they were 100yrs old or something. Was still seen as a "mans world" back then.

The book is great, read it for school years ago. Highly ambivalent about the movie, though. They seem to have turned the story into a thriller and the visual style is very "YA adaptation generic".

They already said a big "fuck you" to the book by not shooting it in b&w. Not interested.
(I love Jeff Bridges, but he is not the right actor for this role.)

Re: Future releases [2]
I hadn't seen the second trailer yet. Glad to see they at least followed that. Been years since I read the book, but I don't remember it being of the action-y YA flavor.

Re: Future releases [2]
yes, if they were code-breakers in the same way Turing was i dunno. but women were hired because they were very good at memorizing and keeping the same focus and concentration over a long period of time, many women had worked at phone-office-thing, you know connecting calls, and therefore had to have a pretty good memory as to where everything led and what numbers and etc.Eldorion wrote:Norc wrote:i am at least 80% sure there were quite a lot of women analysing data during the codebreaking, but i dunno, maybe they came later..

yupp, especially this as it was classified information for like.. decades after that's why we just now have learned about what Turing actually did.azriel wrote:I think there were a huge amount of unsung ladies that did plenty of behind the scenes stuff that never got a mention, not until they were 100yrs old or something. I watched "Monuments Men" with George Clooney, Matt Damon et al. Wasnt quite as good as I hoped it would be.

That's the reaction I heard from a lot of people. Some people were clearly expecting a much bigger showing, though, if the number of copies of the book that we stocked a few months ago is any indication.
