Re: In theatres: 'Desolation of Smaug' [2] SPOILERS
Yeah he should be red and gold as Tolkien drew him and he should go by the titles Smaug the Magnificant and Smaug the Golden and he should be full of himself, unbelievably preening and arrogant and perfectly aware how absolutely magnificent and golden he is. (and four bloody legs- he a dragon not a wyvern! )
He should not look like a dull over sized T-Rex grafted to a giraffes neck

It also annoys me how Jackson describes Smaug as the "Hannibal Lecter" of dragons, as if other dragons are warm and fuzzy

*groan* He probably means manipulative and such... Which is typical dragon stuff anyway.

And as Peter Jackson said at the beggining of that video.
The design of Smaug for me is a bit like what happens when no one tells the movie maker no.
Peter Jackson wrote:The one thing I did want with Smaug from the very beggining was to make him just massive. So he's way way huger than what you would ever imagine.

Well, he certainly succeeded at that, at least compared to what I imagined.
Re: In theatres: 'Desolation of Smaug' [2] SPOILERS
What exactly does making him massive accomplish?

Same thing with those damned rabbits. Everyone thought it was a bad idea, but they just went along with it because PJ has them all on a tight leash.

Yeah, I think the less said about the rabbits the better.

Smaug is more like Godzilla, I think it lessens the scaryness in an odd way making him too big.

Re: In theatres: 'Desolation of Smaug' [2] SPOILERS
Going back to Jurassic Park, those little critters were scarey, the ones in the rain, with the guy stealing DNA, that suddenly whipped out frills & spat goo in your face ?
But the scariest was the Velociraptor's They knew exactly what they were doing & were far more cunning than PJs Puff the Magic dragon.
