Eldorion wrote:Agreed, Mrs Figg. I honestly am expecting something similar to HP DH2, and I wouldn't be surprised if the last film clocks in at under 2.5 hours (at least in theatres).
I wouldnt be surprised if they knock Bilbo out in the first battle so they dont have to bother with him at all, and he wakes up Just in time for Kili and Tauriels death scene. Obviously at this point Thorin has done an Aragorn and has singlehandedly faced Sauron on the battle field.

It hardly bears thinking about does it.
I'm sure they'll outdo all our worst expectations anyway.

I feel like it's a given that Sauron will play a major role in the BO5A, but I suspect you're right Blue and that he'll find new ways to surprise us.
Re: There and Back Again
I knew there had to be a reason these films came out at Christmas.
It's Peter Jacksons Christmas present to us all.

In that case he does a better job at ruining it than the Grinch does

That sounds like a very boring movie.

All the residents of Forumshire liked The Hobbit a lot, but the Peej, who lived just north of Forumshire, did not.

It's too bad this one won't have a happy ending and the only thing that will grow is the Peej's bank account...

Re: There and Back Again
Better yet Sauron turns into a dragon and has an EPIC duel with Smaug for 45 minutes. After this, Morgoth comes back (take that Tolkien Estate!!!) and fights both of them and emerges vicorious. Then he has a one on one fight with Thorin. Thorin puts up a good fight somehow (because he's the main character) but in the end he's mortally wounded. Kili and Tauriel show up to help though and Tauriel saves Kili's life by killing Morgoth herself (Feminine ENERGY) But not really because they both die because of Azog. Bilbo comes into the fray and viciously (heroically?) chops Azog's head off before saying "It's just been revoked".
Credits roll.

Re: There and Back Again
The only part that I really care is in there is when Bilbo gives Bard and Thranduil the arkenstone, which it seems like he's on track to do.
But are we so sure Tauriel dies? And do we think Fili and Kili will?

The last two, almost for sure, because it happens in the book and I doubt Peej will let by a chance to play it up for maximum drama, which is why I think Torri will buy it too.Tinuviel wrote:But are we so sure Tauriel dies? And do we think Fili and Kili will?

I'm loving the Peter Jackson Middle Earth Christmas puns.
Amazing that one can find Christmas cheer even in that.

Re: There and Back Again
It just doesn't seem that Kili's and Fili's deaths will feel right in this story. How can we have a character that we have been led to care about more than most of the other dwarves combined simply killed off at the end of the trilogy?Tinuviel wrote:The only part that I really care is in there is when Bilbo gives Bard and Thranduil the arkenstone, which it seems like he's on track to do.

We will see how these things work out, but it will be difficult to the non-Tolkien obsessed demographic to accept a newly introduced Dain Ironfoot character as king over Mr. Smouldery Eyes Kili and his fiery lady-love.
It's interesting to consider that the fighting at the end of TABA will be the exact opposite of all the action sequences we have seen in this trilogy. Orcs will still die in huge numbers, but so will some of the, so far, invincible dwarves. Perhaps something particularly horrible will happen to them, outside the mien of usual battle-wounds. Perhaps Kili will sacrifice himself for Tauriel; who will in turn sacrifice herself for Legolas, which will go further to explain his characterization in LotR.
If nothing else, I bet some orcs get inside the mountain at one point or another in TABA.

And now there was nothing but the roofs of houses, sweeping along like a great torrent of stones and rocks. Chimney-pots fell, and tiles flew from the roofs..."

I heard that in the last movie ... (Warning spoilers ahead)
Sauron resurrects Smaug from the lake bottom and rides him into battle while flanked by the wraiths who are riding baby dragons they turn the battle in the favor of the bad team...
When all seems lost in the battle Leggy and Tauriel come sliding down the Mt.side jumping and sliding and casually killing orcs while always maintaining the best camera angles of course...
they save the game for the good guys by knocking out all but the captain of the wraiths ( who is teasing Gandalf and making him cry) and Sauron,
but then right at the point where Tauriel is about to kill Smaug and Sauron who are perched on the dead Reindeer which is trapping Leggy - she notices Kili is being beaten down by the once again reconstructed Azog (who was already killed once in a death fight with Thorin.)
She runs off leaving Leggy to his fate (But he is saved by Bilbo who kills Sauron after taking his ring off and staring balefully into his single vaguely vulva shaped eye). In saving Kili Tauriel takes her death wound from a poorly aimed shot by Bard. However before she passes away into the west...she gives birth to a remarkably handsome half elf - half dwarf who is destined to inherit the Dwarf kingdom. Flash to Bilbo sitting in front of his fire in Bag end. The end
