do you have the same reaction when people are fighting over politics or religion? or is it just because its silly women doing the fighting?
Some times, well, pretty much most of the time.
Just when I see men and women fighting over silly things it reminds me of, "No girls allowed!" and, "Eww! Boys are so gross!"

That's about as good a definition of love as any.

In an issue of Maxim magazine, an article entitled "How to Cure a Feminist" obviously a joke article but it demonstrates the 'confusion' some men still have about feminism and the underlying ignorance and derision dished out to any woman who still has the temerity to call herself feminist even though the word itself has been corrupted and turned into almost an insult. Its part of the subtle backlash. Suffragettes were called unfeminine harridans, its no different today. Its also disingenuous of some people to attack feminism and claim its in crisis because of one or two silly girls who want to sell more records by stating they are feminist.

Dude, you've gotta let us know where you found the fountain of youth, because the only people I've ever met who were that easily distracted by pictures of bikinis were all 14 years old.
Re: Music [2]
It all comes back when you get older Eldo, when it sinks in that the closest you are likely to get again to a pretty young lass in a bikini is in a picture (short of risking a court order that is!).

Re: Music [2]
As opposed to the viewpoints of a certain character from the South in a certain fantasy film series it is more important, then, to find someone who is special enough to make up for the fact that you won't both look great in bikinis forever (or a similarly-pleasing outfit for guys) than it is to "play your violin while you can."
But of course doing both is supposedly the best way to go. Whatever, f*ck it.
And as for Germaine Greer. Sure she sounds pretty tough, very active. But she's just another person trying to figure out what she believes.
She's stuck to the idea of Anarchist Communism for, apparently, her whole life now. But the meanings have changed around.
I know Mrs. Figg objected to how pat Petty was making the evolution of Feminism over the years, but it's fairly obvious that Greer does belong to a sub-movement within Feminism that would be out of place in, say, a liberal college campus of today.
Take, for example, the widely criticized (newspapers are happy to get something negative to say about a feminist) situation where she voted against the election to fellowship of a transgendered man at Cambridge, arguing that he, being born a man, should not be allowed into a female college. I mean, that's very contrary to the current popular gender-identity flux thingummy that I've encountered at college.
Concerning criticism of Miley Cyrus for her sexuality on-stage, Greer sort of went the other direction entirely early in her career. As opposed to slipping into the usual sensualized routine for, say, modern pop-singers (appear in magazine nearly naked, perform sexualized acts on tour, and so on) she flaunted the realities of female nudity in an attempt, I would assume, to forward feminist ideals using shock value.
For example, she posed nude a few times. In the Amsterdam underground magazine Suck she posed "stripped to the buff, looking at the lens through [her] thighs."
Interestingly, she also posed nude for the London-based Oz as the male editors of the paper had said they would pose nude as well (they didn't).
Anyway, here's an interesting quote of hers from 2008 advocating a sort of dynamic revolutionary state:
"The difficulty for me is that I believe in permanent revolution. I believe that once you change the power structure and you get an oligarchy that is trying to keep itself in power, you have all the illiberal features of the previous regime. What has to keep on happening is a constant process of criticism, renewal, protest and so forth."
Sounds a lot like a UC campus.
But really, getting rid of the first wave of the revolution is sometimes the first step of a post-revolution regime. Unless I'm mistaken, something similar to that has happened in the French and Russian revolution. The Leading Revolutionists of the first wave, once the established government has been taken down, are then decried as not being revolutionary enough and holding on to the ideals of the past.
This all leads to lots of dismembered corpses and people get that rush of revolutionary fervour again for a while, until the next problem crops up. It is the co-opting of revolutionary ideals as the means by which a regime maintains its position over the masses. "Oh, he's a bourgeoisie sympathizer, grasping at the corrupt vestiges of the past, take him out back and shoot him."
This is all just a wandering of my mind. Clearly, Greer is talking about more of a revolution in the intelligentsia: a cultural revolution (feminism). So, really, what she's ultimately arguing for here is for newer generations (the porn director, in our example) to confront her ideas of what feminism is with a fresh wave of reform, protest, and what-have-you (miley cyrus twerking, apparently).
So, sure Mrs. Figg, she sounds tough and intelligent and free-minded and "progressive" (anarchist communism is not my idea of progress, but hey, whichever) and caring. But then she's also a dick sometimes to people. That's Feminism I guess. Proving that women are just people.
Edit:
That "How to Cure Feminism" article has to date from, what, early 2000s? I think there is a noticeable decline in that sort of sentiment in the faster-paced post-internet era we're currently in. Either that or I don't read the right (wrong) magazines.

Re: Music [2]
As far as revolutions go, I think Greer belonged to a generation of women still wimmining the barricades, they had to be bolshy to survive I guess. Their mothers generation had only just got the vote for the first time in history. I do think its weird though as a more countries are turning to the burkha some Western women think shoving their ass in the publics face is somehow liberating. Its funny that Miley Cyrus bestie mates with Courtney Love kind of karmic justice really. All this reminds me of that bizarre tv show, Snog, Marry, Avoid. These loud skanky barbie girls are hauled into a makeshift booth and given a make under to make them look more 'ladylike'. Its carcrash tv but fascinating socio-watsit, after they have been scrubbed and de-skanked the girls turn out to be nice little things with absolutely zero self confidence thinking they had to look like hos to get any male attention or approval, they all without exception feel better about themselves not looking tarty or twerking in bars for the lads. what does this say about how young girls are being brought up, why in this day and age do they feel so worthless. It makes me sad. They obviously think Miley Cyrus is a worthwhile model to follow.

Yeah, the lyrics definitely hit you.

Nice song. And knowing what happened to him certainly gives the lyrics some impact. It's such a simple sentiment, but it ressonates properly.
