Gotta agree with petty there. Although i don't like the interview.. Martin takes it well, but they're basically bullying his fans, what do they expect him to say!?
Re: More Hobbit pictures [4] SPOILER THREAD
I'll never understand that type of fan-art (or fan-fiction).

It looks like Bard is standing in front of a green screen. I thought Lake-town was a set.Pettytyrant101 wrote:The blending doesn't look very good here.- Bungo
Yeah its still got that weird artificial light look, as if the whole film is taking place inside an xbox.

It is a set, built in front of a green screen in a studio.

Yeah, but it looks like he's standing in front of just a green screen, not a set that's in front of a green screen!

I know, right? I'm really concerned about what they might be preparing for dinner, and if the little girl will get a bed time story.

Re: More Hobbit pictures [4] SPOILER THREAD
I know, it's weird seeing the picture. It looks like a scene is in the midst of unraveling, but I can't imagine what it's really about. Or rather if I try to, then I see just how off base the movie has gotten from the story to even be there.

Well, at least there's the inevitable Bard and family television drama spin off to look forward to.

Did you guys hate the Rohan refugee children in TTT this much too? It's not like they were an especially intrusive part of the story (though it could be different this time ).
Re: More Hobbit pictures [4] SPOILER THREAD
Didn't much care for the number of times the camera cut to them in the caves
They kind of remind me of the kids from the Chronicles of Narnia movies.

Re: More Hobbit pictures [4] SPOILER THREAD
Well, the children in Rohan didn't intrinsically change the character of a central person in the story by introducing a subplot that seems like it's been lifted straight out of a soap opera.
Though they might have damaged Bards character enough already by casting a youngish hunk in the role of someone who should be a grizzled old man bereft of hope.

Fair point. I guess I gave up all hope for a Bard reminiscent of the book when they cast young Orlando Bloom in the role.Bluebottle wrote:Well, the children in Rohan didn't intrinsically change the character of a central person in the story by introducing a subplot that seems like it's been lifted straight out of a soap opera.

Re: More Hobbit pictures [4] SPOILER THREAD
Yeah, though them making Bard into this hero character didn't really surspise me. It's just more of the changes they have made to Thorin already, and Bilbo as well.
Why they needed to make him a youngish single dad makes no sense to me however. Other than to take up time one the screen, I guess. If it's meant to stir the viewers emotions it's certainly a very clumsy and heavy handed attempt to do so.

I am confused. Or one of us is, at least.Bluebottle wrote:Yeah, though them making Bard into this hero character didn't really surspise me. It's just more of the changes they have made to Thorin already, and Bilbo as well.

Bard is a hero character. His steadfastness should be legendary! A strong leader (at least of his company of bowmen, if I remember the book aright), a good negotiator, and a cautious personality make him the best individual to help rebuild the lives of the People of Lake-town after Smaug destroys their home.
By the by, real quick, Smaug's destruction of Lake-town is quite the jerk-move! Interesting to note that.
Thorin is not a hero character. His selfishness messes everything up. Thorin as hero is not right, book-wise, but Bard is just fine in that role.
By the way, Bilbo is also a hero (he makes some of the toughest choices betraying Thorin like he does). I know you meant something else, or assume so, but I thought I'd add that here for comparison.
We shall see how heavy-handed this addition of children will be once the film is released.
As for his age? Well, what can you do. Ageism is the flashy little punk smirking from behind the casting chairs of most Hollywood productions. (Most movies, in fact. This is not a problem limited to American productions alone.)
Edit: Where in the book is there mention made of his age? I found only that he "was a descendent in long line of Girion, Lord of Dale" and that he was "grim-voiced and grim-faced."
Bendy Cucumberpatch could be described a "grim-voiced and grim-faced", and he's only 37!
This "weary and grizzled" stuff is nonsense, without further illustration of where the idea came from.

Not sure if you're being sarcastic again or not Forest, but I think most visual depictions of Bard have shown him being on the older site. Or, at the very least, being older than Luke Evans (who's not particularly grim-faced either).
