Now if the film was fleshed out like that picture I would have liked it more, not all that false, "Toys R Us" CGI. Look at Gandy's hands, the light on them, the expression on his face,.... much better.

I agree, but I didnt mean as an animation. There was something not right to the FEEL of The Hobbit, the whole patina was...odd? I know its a fantasy but, I want a fantasy I can believe in.

Having rewatched the QI Christmas specials from the last two years last year (yesterday afternoon) I suddenly realised they both have Hobbit references in them.
2012:
"You were supposed to not bring any props from the Hobbit back."
When talking about a jingling johnny (an ottoman musical instrument used by Bethoven).

I do like that Gandlaf, its like Sir Ian, only better lit and properly crabbit like book Gandalf- that expression- 'quick to anger, quick to laugh'- I can get that vibe immediately from that face, sadly not so McKellans twinkly eyed version (not the actors fault, the scripts)
