Oh sure, everyone does it. It's important to club them though instead of shooting or stabbing, you don't want to perforate the hide.

Shocked
(To everything.  Laughing )

I think Norc summed up fjordlandian winter clothing well. Though I might have said always gloves, not maybe gloves. And I tend to think snowboard stuff tends to be a little to bulky for skiing. Though that depends on the kind of ski trip, of course.

As for Petty, I don't think anyone begrudges him a break. It was just the timing and lack of explanation that left people wondering I think.  Shrugging

I think some of us here who have been reasonably long termers at one time or another have got to the point where things Forumshiran have got to us and we have moved on for awhile, short or long, or decided to permanetly emigrate (GB and Ally seem to be in that situation).

Petty is taking a long breath and seeing how things go. He has been on the receiving end of things a few times lately due to folk I think misunderstanding the intent of some of what he says, taking what he says as being personal when he is actually just expressing ideas. I would note from long association with him, that no matter how strongly he is willing to debate his ideas, it never stops him from considering carefuly the arguments of others. But he will hold to his views until convinced in his own mind there is a better argument than his own. That in my opinion is intellectual integrity. I find him to have a lot of integrity in that way. When folk think he is abusing their intelligence or purely having a nasty go at them, he is forever amazed and shocked by the reaction - and sometimes he bites too, which leaves him feeling even worse. Anyway, so he's having a break. I hope not for ever.

Luckily, I have other ways of keeping in contact and we'll still be mates, so if he doesn't come back, I'll be able to keep him all for myself. Nod

Well, thank you for the response Orwell.  Nod

I will certainly be missing Pettys contribution around here. Well, I am actually.

And though I know I haven't been here that long at all, it does look, and I hope you'll excuse me for saying this, a bit like a storm in a teacup from the outside. I am very aware that from someone elses perspective it might all seem very different though.

So, I will at least be hoping Petty will reconsider. Though, as I said, I don't begrudge him a break at all, if that's what he feels that he needs.

I hope he does come back one day, I'm very sad to see him go. It's like GB all over again  Crying or Very sad
Hiatuses are needed sometimes though, so I just hope that he rejuvenates and comes back when he's ready!

Oh Petty, Petty  what have I missed. You were always there to comfort me and in turn Hasia. I  can't, I just cannot tell her, she would be so heartbroken. I hope | did not do anything. I will wear a black armband and |I am not kidding, just like when John died( Grondy from Planet-Tolkien).
I feel ill and broken hearted. You are a man of integrity and no matter how we differed I had only to think on it a day and knew you to be gentle, kind and willing, always, to listen .
What have we done?  What a sad day. A terrible black day for me. Sad

I hope Petty is doing Ok. Before I first posted back in Bree, I was a lurker for a few months reading the news about the then two Hobbit movies. It was fun reading the information as it came out, but why I stuck around at that particular site was the forum section. This might sound strange in today's age, but that was the first real forum I had ever posted in.
It was largely because of the stirring debates I read between petty and richard (I think it was) and the rest of the forum. I had been taking a lot of courses around that time and was very tired each evening; the posts and glimpses of Scotshobbit Buckie and all the personalities there were very uplifting to me for some reason. Sort of something I looked forward to reading between classes and in the car rides. Anyways I hope you're doing alright Petty. And remember we still need a parody of the next movie  affraid

Although I've only be around for a few months (though I believe he still posted at Bree when I joined a year or two back), I've come to greatly appreciate the Scotshobbit, his well argued thoughts, crabbit energy and biting satire. I'm pretty sad to see him go  Crying or Very sad , but as said above sometimes breaks are needed, all the best Petty wherever you are, hope to see you around some time soon. The Shire won't be the same without you.

Now, down to buisness, who takes over the job of arguing with Mrs Figg?
