Re: Holidays and absences [2]
I am happy to report that the Cybermen have been successfully defeated!
In as much as a state of mind euphemistically labeled can be defeated that is.
(I'm over the grumps.)
{{{...short of Eldo and BN.filmz provoking another unpredictable mood-swing that is.}}}
No, really though, enough deleting, sorry about that.
When can we start seeing some pictures or videos or such of this river trip thing?

Re: Holidays and absences [2]
Thanks!
And yes, that is certainly fair: Lancebloke has to raft down a river, I just have to go get my notes from my desk and type up a page or so.
I've been on the couch (or sofa, if you like) sick for the last few days, but I'll probably update that today.

I'm glad you're feeling better and that you've decided to start posting again, Forest. We missed you. I hope you'll say something if you start to feel the cybermen returning. Lord knows I've gone into enough funks as a result of conversations with people on here. But at the end of the day I think everyone wants to be here for each other, especially when there's a need.

Nice to see you posting again Forest , as Eldo said I hope you say something if you ever feel like 'deleting' again, the people who post here make Forumshire the mad, wonderful (and slighty worrying) forum it is, although I haven't had a great deal of direct conversation with you, I certainly appreciate you presence on the boards a great deal (not least your more level headed approach when it comes to the Hobbit films, crabbit and sarcasm can only get us so far) and it wouldn't be the same place without you (or, indeed any of the other regulars who post here)

Well, discussion does get swallowed by crabbit, sometimes it is nice to have a even handed discussion (granted the evidence does speak for itself), whilst I'm not particularly fond of the films, endlessly discussing how crap they are, is well, kinda crap itself, sure there isn't much point in being optimistic this late in the game, but sometimes it just feels some arguments take these movies too seriously, and look for any excuse to moan about them, (admittedly I'm more or less past caring how BOTFA turns out at this point) it can be a bit circle jerky at times. I didn't mean anything personal by it you were the one who automatically associated 'crabbit' with yourself
Then again I'm not sure you'd consider this an issue or a badge of pride as a Scotsman...
it is kinda funny this is the second or third result for 'Hobbit forum' in my search engine, I can't help but wonder what casual viewers think of the place...

Dunno about that, some of the most interesting debates had on here have begun with crabbit.
Besides there is only a lot of crabbit over TH, when it comes to LotR's Im largely holding the crabbit spoon myself.

Well, yeah I was referring to The Hobbit really, again it's not a personal attack at you or anyone, just a trademark of the forum I guess. Holding the crabbit spoon...that's a great title for a custom rank actually

Re: Holidays and absences [2]
Which reminds me Petty of a most disturbing mistake you made recently.Pettytyrant101 wrote:What do you mean crabbit can only get you so far?!!!
I forget where this blatant anti-Scottish (and anti-sane) statement was posted by your good self, but it went basically that you believed Crabbit needed a justification.
Well.. I am sorry but the very essence of Crabbit is that it frees us from cruel Lady Reason and allows us to burst forth from the cold constraints of enforced social normality. It allows us to express how we really feel! And surely there is no necessity to give justification for our emotions. We're tricky beings; we can hardly understand our own emotions half the time, and to try and pretend that glorious crabbit need be reined in if it offends someone else's idea of rationality, well that's just pish and tush nonsense!
Oh and thanks very much Malickfan! I am surprised to hear that you think of me as a more rational voice in comparison to the "oh GAWD this trilogy is crap" cry, but I am quite pleased! And, in fact, I shall strive to be more reasonable in future and lend my voice to the side of stately debate!

Re: Holidays and absences [2]
No, no Forest.
You are only half right on this matter.
You got the first bit right- 'the very essence of Crabbit is that it frees us from cruel Lady Reason and allows us to burst forth from the cold constraints of enforced social normality.'
But this- It allows us to express how we really feel! And surely there is no necessity to give justification for our emotions.
Crabbit is not an emotion- you are describing anger. Crabbit is not anger, crabbit is not blind or reactionary. Crabbit is a tool, a scalpel in reality. It is the means by which the world can be made a better place by unrelentingly and crabbitly pointing out all the things that are currently wrong with it.
And never stopping.
I can only assume you failed Higher Crabbit on the ethics questions
But I give you extra points for correct use of the word 'pish'

Re: Holidays and absences [2]
I accept your greater knowledge of the complexities of Crabbit-tude, but let us examine this statement:
"Crabbit is a tool, a scalpel in reality. It is the means by which the world can be made a better place by unrelentingly and crabbitly pointing out all the things that are currently wrong with it."
-Pettytyrant, 2014
This is a good definition of the phrase! However, there lurks at the back of my mind the fact that you did attempt to disarm a poor crabbit individual of his only defense against madness: you attempted to persuade him that his crabbit, the one tool that you will never find (but often encounter) in a shop, was being misused.
"You need to have justification for this crabbit," you said. "You can't just use it whenever your soul cries out for it's use."
Well, that is akin to telling a surgeon that he must persuade his patients of the importance of getting his threaded needle and clamps before he may begin repairing the spurting arteries; or demanding that a pilot have a damn good reason that he used the elevation guage back there in that rough patch; or demanding that a film director receive permission for all their changes while in the field. (This last might be good for Jackson if the studios weren't even worse than he is when it comes to lore sacreligion )
In summation: Crabbit should never be controlled by a third party. It is for yourself to decide where to apply it's powerful effects. Voicing our crabbit is the sonic solution to nearly all of life's grittier problems.
(I did very well on my Crabbit ethics test; my instructor was rather crabbit about my use of language though and flunked me).

I never said that! (I dont think I did anyway )
Of course crabbit must be used when the soul cries out for it, or the right amount of buckie, but with focus, with purpose, its not just for lashing out like an angry person with.
