Re: Tales of Home [3]
are u serious? last day was the last day of sunlight.. i barely woke up to daylight today, around 12.30, by two it was completely dark again. we have i think it's one or two months with no sun at all, then plus some months either side where it goes darker/lighter.
Re: Tales of Home [3]
I didn't know if Finnmark was far enough north of you that you still got sun.
I'd take up swearing as a serious art form too if I had months without sun.

Re: Tales of Home [3]
I do feel for you guys.
The darkness is my least favourite part of winter, and you get it so much worse than us. I think we at worst have 5-6 hours of sun a day.
Another place in Norway found a reather ingenius solution to being without sunlight through the winter. Though they have no sunlight because they pretty much live at the bottom of a ravine.

Re: Tales of Home [3]
What's worse, the midnight sun or the no sun at all? I'm not sure which I would dislike more (probably the no sun at all though).
Re: Tales of Home [3]
The midnight sun is one of the most magical things about (northern) Norway, you got to experience it to know why it's so special. You go out and it feels like day, yet the light is very different. And everything is quiet except the birds. Going for walks in the middle of the night with the sun still shining and nobody is awake and outdoors but you is the very definition of tranquility for me.

Re: Tales of Home [3]
The lack of light is troubling.
I think even here people do things like light therapy to ward of seasonal depression because of the lack of light. But most people get through it alright, and I always felt the snow helps in making the winter bearable.

Re: Tales of Home [3]
I'm already tired of the dark; the sun's been setting by like 5:30 PM and I want it to stay up. I think the cold is what bugs me most about winter though. We rarely get snow in Maryland so the fact that its freezing just feels like nature is mocking us.

But you can go downhill skiing and cross country skiing and ice skating and aking and...
Though I'll admit that might be a bit harder without any snow and with just a steady drizzle of rain.

Re: Tales of Home [3]
Oslo decided to turn all wintery today, with -5 degrees and we even got some small amounts of snow. Though it is quite a chilly experience if you're out and about.
Not proper winter but we're getting there as well.

Ah, we'll you know which part of Oslo I'm from then. It is probably the best place for a view of the city around here, though Damefallet isn't too bad either.Norc wrote:O_O i think i know where you've taken that second photo..
By the way, the third photo is taken about 50 meters away from the second.
Thank you Ringo. It did turn out a lot more athmospheric than I thought it would.Ringdrotten wrote:Love this picture
Strange thing is you removed the fog you would actually see a large part of the city and Oslofjorden.

I've never been there for new years eve though, as Damefallet is a little bit closer. It would probably be magical, if we got a New Years Eve without fog for one times sake.

Though I would be interested to know how you know. If you feel like elucidating me on that point, that is. No pressure.
