This weekend is the Cowal Highland Games.

Officially it starts today- the lower levels of the dancing and individual piping competitions begin today- but really things are still being set up as Friday and Saturday are the main competition days and Saturday is the main Highland Games day (hammer throwing, caber tossing, wrestling ect) as well as all the pipe bands competing.

I happened to be going by the stadium today so took some pics.

Hope the weather clears up a bit before the weekend though.



Those covered pavillions in front of the stand are where the dancers are competing.



The Main Entrance- I never been through this on Games day in my adult life- I stopped going to the stadium when I got too old to climb in over the wall. The alternative being to open my sporran!  



Going behind the stadium there were, behind the wall, lots of backs of stalls and stuff- this one rather caught my eye- I assume this is not a boast but a health warning!

And on the way back home I passed this garden- see we even have palms as garden plants.  



The proper opening of the games is tonight downtown- the Sunset Ceremony- a lone piper walks along a balcony playing as the sun sets behind him- on a good night its pretty atmospheric- sadly tonight is not looking like being a good night- but a wet grey one. So I might not bother going.

Ah- fair enough! Its just it all does look a bit grey and empty right now.

The build up to it, as the pavillions and stuff go up, and fair arrives ect always reminds me of the build up to Bilbo's birthday- complete with hope and baited breath for the weather to clear in time!

That actually looks a whole lot of fun !  

I had a walk up "The Downs" earlier, got half way, got hungry & came home. Its so quiet & relaxing getting lost in the woodland

Thats looks like a really nice walk, I particularly like the pic of the woods. Lucky for those snails you arent French!

Eugh ! yuk ! couldnt eat a snail for love nor money ! Im lucky, ive SO much greenery round me & getting high up on The Downs is only a 15min walk away for me.

Whatta?! That was horrible. Hurty Gruten! Who could resist?!

The Lego video is not a 'official' tourist one, you can tell by the way the weather is as you can expect and not super sunny and perfect.

And the Scottish Nationals in Dancing are Under way. Main day tomorrow- weather forecast not so good though- overcast with occasional sunshine but windy too.  

I always knew that kilts were actually dresses! Finally, some photographic proof.

Your mistake there Eldo is that women can wear kilts too. Just as they can wear trousers too.
Its probably one of those woman's prerogative things.
