Umm my crabbit meter went through the roof at the mention of the Trollshaws bit- wtf!!!!!Guess there will be no talking trolls or humour filled dialogue then. Just a predictable big fight till sun-up. Evil or Very Mad

Umm, some of the songs are in it- except the wrong ones!! The one in this is the inn song from Bree in FotR! Where's the briliant smash the crockery song?

That's one of the best songs in the book! I'll miss it.

And I hope the trolls talk! And what about the troll's magic purse saying "Eer! 'Oo are you?" Don't cut out the whimsy!

Well the bit on the vid showing the filming of the Trollshaws involve a lot of dwarves running about in front of a green screen attacking sacks that will be cgi trolls. Evil or Very Mad
Looks like the Coven is continuing its preference for a fight over dialogue.

Well considering they can't write any for themselves, and yet are too proud to use the material right in front of them.... what do you think will happen??

I just don't understand the Coven at all. They have a brilliant song that fits the scene in the crockery song and they choose to replace it with the dwarves singing a whimsical hobbit song that has no connection to what is going on or anything else for that matter (and which only popped into Frodo's head because he was in an inn at the time-and which if memory serves Bilbo wrote!). Surely if they have the instruments in the film they must have kept the 'ere break of day' song too. Please, at least that PJ. Give me something.

This is bugging me, according to that vid one of the dwarves is a thief- they even say you wouldn't have him round for dinner as he'd steal the silverware. Apart from not fitting anything in the book in anyway, if Thorin has a thief why would he need Bilbo as a burglar?
Ooohhh curse the Coven- why do you keep doing these things?! Evil or Very Mad

Came to a decision whilst watching vlog no3. it is clear he is not making the hobbit as we all know it. As we suspected it is the two part prequel to LOTR. So, as I enjoyed the films as they were I am going to stop comparing and just wait and see the films, unrelated to any preconceptions I may have. This way I can enjoy the build up, see the films and then have all the joy of a reawakening (as I have had over the other films with Pettys edits) too! Very Happy

(Thats the plan, wonder how long it will last!)

Good luck with that delusion Kafria- it will of course involve ignoring everything I write or I will bring you down! Sorry but I doubt I can keep my mouth shut at each new atrocity they inflict on the original work.

Thanks, Kafria! Expectations are always what make me the most unhappy. I plan to stay in the moment, enjoying the books and the movies for what they are.

I remember how much I agonized over the loss of The Scouring Of The Shire and Bombadil, or Saruman's Death By Spiky Wheel, or the fabulous rumor that Rosie O'Donnell and Oprah were going to have cameos as a pair of warrior princesses. I still enjoyed all three of the films, and bought all three director's cut DVD packages, and enjoyed them too.

Plus, I've got a parody to sell!

Thorin brought Bilbo with because Bilbo was expendable.

My question is (perhaps already been asked) if the film features a fight in the Trollshaws, why are the dwarves armed at all? In the book they have only their parcels and paraphernalia, no swords.

You know, it IS kind of fun to pick at all of Jackson's choices!

Maybe that's a bit of a red herring - that Man in the Moon song I mean... Tricksey? (Fingers crossed).

So what we need is someone who can interpret herrings.

(Mmmmmm... somethin' wholesome about Herringaugurs, I feel....)

I must learn to concentrate ----

If they're putting in songs, at least, it gives cause for some optimism... doesn't it?

And you're right about numbers, Chris. Also, you're right too Petty, we need only one thief (or burglar).

I just don't see thief as being a very honourable job for a dwarf. Why would someone with the gravitas, diginity and authority of Thorin hang about with a thief? Makes no sense. And dwarves are famous for their possessive nature- you'd think dwarf thief would be a short lived career plan among dwarves. Typical Coven thinking however- make a change cause they like it and never think through the ramifications of it.

I don't think Jackson sees dwarves as much more than a source of comic relief. So much of Gimli's dialogue was pointlessly goofy, farting and belching notwithstanding. I would have preferred a more dignified dwarf. Like in the books.

I am rather dreading the humour in this I have to say- especially sad as the humour of the book makes me laugh every time. I can well see these dwarves being ridiculous, belching, farting, pickpocketing, arguing and completely lacking, as you say Wobbit, in all the diginity of the race that they possess in the book. This is the race who made Khazad-dum, the Lonely Mountain, the finest smiths and miners in the wrold, not a circus troupe.

Indeed! As light-hearted as The Hobbit is, the dwarves are never played for laughs. No more than anyone else (like the goblins or hobbits).

It's as if Jackson is drawing on other, non-Tolkien traditions of dwarfness. Tolkien refers somewhere to some dwarves being evil, but a dwarf-pickpocket reminds me of Dungeons & Dragons from the 1970's (way back when I played!). And the whole comic-relief approach is reminiscent of the dwarves in Warhammer from Games Workshop. Maybe Jackson will have them sing "Heigh-Ho" and rescue Bilbo (or Snow White) from an Evil Queen.

Jackson's Gimli says at one point "I wish I could muster a legion of Dwarves, fully armed and filthy," but I never envisioned them as anything other than short, cheap, tough, master craftsmen with beards. Not filthy.

Not only that the dwarves for some reason seem to be Scotsdale dwarves and the implication in that vid is all they do is drink huge amounts and act badly- shocking! Would you believe such a thing- its a slur on Scotsdale I tell you.

As a 10-12 yr old reading the Hobbit i always imagined the dwarves looking similar to the dwarves in Snow White.
Hoods, cloaks and such like. Agree they need updating, but how much. The photo's look a bit far fetched, but might
look ok in the movie. We will just have to wait and see.

They don't look like dwarves and yet PJ seems intent on portraying them as all the worst cliches about dwarves. Wheres the diginity of the dwarves? The honour of the dwarves?

Oh good now every time I switch on my pc I can have a crabbit attack! No thanks.
