That's not what I got from the note. It sounds to me like they plan to release the film in 48 fps but will probably also release a 24 fps version, in the same way that the films will be in 3D but will almost certainly have a 2D version as well.

True, it's certainly a lawyer's word. I'm sure that it was largely included to -- in a lawyerly fashion -- give them an exit. I'm sure that they want and plan to release the films in 48 fps in at least some theatres, otherwise they wouldn't spend the money and make such a high-profile announcement. But I could be mistaken.

I suspect some very bad heightened fake river rapid drama, that will make no sense whatsoever. But that would be consistent with PJ's inability to prevent spectacle ruining sense, thought or reason.

Certainly a possibility in my opinion. I would not be very surprised at some dangerous fish (piranha?), or perhaps mysterious 'river-creature(s)' being tossed in too. Not that I want any of these things of course!

(also good to see you still about the place Elthir- I heard a rumour in my position as host of the Forum Awards that you will be nominated in this years Best Lore Category)

In the blog, Peter Jackson reveals technical details about The Hobbit movies. Jackson says that the film crew uses no less than 48 Red Epic cameras. The Red cameras have become extremely popular and have replaced more traditional professional cameras in some studios.

The Hobbit is being shot in 5K resolution - 5120x2700 pixels - and 48 frames per second. Traditionally, Hollywood movies have been shot in 24 frames per second, and with 48 frames per second you can expect the same cinematic movie experience but images will appear smoother. Peter Jackson is very excited about the move to 48 frames per second, and he believes that it’s; "like the back of cinema has had a hole cut out of it, where the screen is, and it's like you're looking into the real

Peter Jackson also reveals that The Hobbit is being shot in 3D. All scenes are created in full 3D-resolution and The Hobbit will be released in both 3D and 2D. The Red Epic cameras have no built-in 3D-mode, so instead the film crew has created a mirror-solution in collaboration with a company called 3ality.

Even the concept drawings have been created in 3D. Watch the clip below for more interesting details about 3D and the ultra-high 5K resolution

So it will be in front of Tintin, then! That means nine more days till wide distribution of the trailer in North America. Also, my interest in seeing Tintin opening weekend has risen considerably.

Thanks again for all the news you find and share with us, Chris! Very Happy

Post by Eldorion Tue Dec 13, 2011 4:21 am

I always found it vaguely depressing to see the empty, white-washed shells of Hobbit holes that were left behind after filming on LOTR wrapped. Therefore, seeing all these photos of the set being restored is filling me with this strange joy, especially since I can recognize a number of spots both from the films and photographs of the old tour area. Very Happy I always wanted to visit the Hobbiton location but I want to even more now that they've restored it. Laughing

Still looks far to overgrown and unkempt to my eyes for hobbits.

Just reading through that article raises a question- why dd PJ change Sam moving into Bag End at the end?- why give him a different hobbithole with a yellow door?- PJ couldn't even leave that alone! Change for the sake of it it seems.

Excitement aside, I do agree. That has long been my chief complaint about the movie!Shire (though I can't think of any other complaints at the moment anyway; perhaps I'm just in a good mood Very Happy).

You had to read the article to think of that question? Razz Seriously though, I have no idea why that change was made. It's just pointless; it would have taken one or two lines of dialogue max to explain that Frodo left Bag End to Sam.

Wasn't I hadn't noticed before, just it reminded I hadn't vented my spleen about it, so many major bad changes easy to let the many small bad changes slip by. And don;t even think it would have needed any dialogue- I'm sure people could have worked out.
