I have promised myself that if there will be an LA premiere, I would fly out there (by myself if i had to!) wait by the red carpet for 18 hours, and see all of those people I loathe/look up to and give Orlando Bloom a BIGGGGGGG hug! But don't tell Beren! Embarassed

Oh no - I'll be fifty four when the movies come out - I wonder what I'll be doing then ---? Probably buying bigger trousers -- and still saving up to live out my twilight years at a home for childish old folks! Shocked (It's alright for Odo, Primmy and Bella are years younger than him and should still be sprightly enough to look after him in his dotage - he hopes).

"I wonder what I'll be doing then ---? Probably buying bigger trousers"- Orwell

lol!

I think when the film comes out I will trying very hard not to notice that almost everyone else in the cinema will be half my age! And as I sit there feeling ridiculous in a pair of 3d glasses (that won't fit properly over my normal glasses) surrounded by youth I will reminding myself I'm doing this for the love of Tolkien. Then I'll watch it and want to kill PJ again. Not that I'm prejudging, (who me?-never!) just thats what I suspect I will be doing when the film comes out.

I think you're already surrounded by people who are half your age -- or at least pretty close to that. Wink

I doubt it. While 3D has been increasing, it is very unlikely that 2D theatres will be completely phased out in the next 18 months. There are just too many of them, and it costs money to replace them. Incidentally, a number of recent blockbusters have been struggling to make the same amount of money from 3D that Avatar and Alice in Wonderland did when live-action 3D got it's big boost. I'm confident that those of us who want to see The Hobbit in 2D will be able to. Smile

Yes but on here I can't see you are all so horribly young so I feel less like a decrpit old Scotshobbit- on here my inner child can still play and you lot can voice your inner grown up and we all meet somewhere in the middle! Besides I get crabbit in a cinema; talking, inappropriate laughter, people eating Evil or Very Mad

More Eathquake trouble in NZ. Christchurch again. Don't know if it will affect filming any.

I was just at the theatre yesterday and we had babies crying and toddlers running up and down the steps the whole time. I guess the parents couldn't be arsed to stop watching their pressure movie and take care of their kids. Rolling Eyes

As for the people of Christchurch, I hope that they can recover from this and go on. They've had a rough year or so...

Arrgh kids running about, babies crying! Makes me crabbit just thinking about it. Did make me wonder though what sort of rating TH is aiming for? Potentially it could have a fair bit of violenc in it. What with the spiders and the Battle at the end. Wonder how PJ is going to balance that side of it. I thought the LotR could have done with an older age rating and then PJ could have included some of the violence that is there in the book (thinking in particular here about the two orcs in the tower with Frodo-thats very nasty and had it been in the film would surely have warrrented a different rating).

Saw Alice in Wonderland in 3D, and quite honestly, while sitting watching, I forgot it was in 3D. Though while reading the wiki page a while back I discovered that apparently PJ has some brand spanking new camera with increased frame rate (some jargon like that) so fingers cross and the 3D version will be good! Smile

Also saw the Hangover 2 a few days ago, and there were definitely a few "kids" messing around. Obviously I didn't intervene because that would make me seem very uncool and what not. Razz

What was the age for LOTR? 12? Well it's definitely not going to be any higher than that and I wouldn't be surprised if it classified as a PG- the battle of the five armies wasn't that gruesome from what I remember, and hopefully the goblins and the wargs won't be too scary!

I suspect that The Hobbit will aim for a PG-13 (UK) and 12 (UK) rating, the same as LOTR. That allows them to bring in younger(ish) viewers while still being dark and serious enough to not seem like a kid's movie. I really can't imagine that PJ wants to preserve the "for kids" feel of that the book has, even though it's the sort of children's book that can be read and enjoyed by adults as well.

I suspect you are right Eldo. In feel, tone and darkness I suspect it to be much on a par with the LotR films even though the books are miles apart in terms of those things.

I've said it before but I'll say it again! Very Happy PJ seems more concerned with making prequels to his films than making an adaptation of Tolkien's book. Where's the buckie? Evil or Very Mad

Mainly in me! Fortunetly Forumshire has infinte amounts for occasions such as these when we all have a moment of clarity into how badly PJ is going to mangle the book.

It looks almost the same! A bit darker, though, don't you think?

Mmmm whats going on in the picture with all the dwarves in the background- I hope thats not some sort of comedy contract for the burglar job, 'humorously' long to show how greedy they are. Evil or Very Mad

And is that Thorin in the black? Where are the colours? Where are the coloured beards? And aren't Bilbo's ears a bit over done? Don't remember the hobbits in LotR having such large pointy ears.

They did, actually, but not sure if they were that big. Bit disappointed about the colours myself - they don't have to be bright blue, only dark blue-ish or something.

I now they had the pointy ears in LotR's but they just look a lot more prominant here. But its the colours a bit more worrying (or lack of them). Is this the first solid proof that the more childlike aspects of TH have been dumped?
I also note a politically correct lack of smoke, Bag End shuld be wreathed in the stuff with 13 dwarves, a hobbit and a wizard all having a pipe.
