Re: Doctor Who [6]
You wanted to be one of those people?!
I'd think it would put you off. It shows up most government work for what it is- pointless, policies made up purely to have something to do and justify money from the Treasury which in return represents the power of the Minister and the Department. What the actual policy is doesnt matter- they make one up in the back of a cab and finish on the line "and we've 10 million to throw at it, and that sounds quite a lot."
I think you had a lucky escape Ally.

My favourite comment from Gallifrey Base so far, sadly I meant to post it earlier and cant remember the posters name now-
- Spoiler:
- "No, no! Why do they keep doing this? Casting the Doctor younger and younger every time. He must be at least 15 years younger than John Hurt."

Re: Doctor Who [6]
We were talking about the tv show The Thick of It- in which Peter Capaldi played Malcolm Tucker.
I though it a surprising choice of show to be inspired to go into politics for as it mainly shows up how nothing gets done, no one is really interested in doing anything beyond furthering their own careers, and bringing other peoples down.
And anyone who genuinely does want to get something done wont be able to anyway.

Re: Doctor Who [6]
I think GCSE would be Higher Grade equivalent for me. Which obviously being a Scottish qualification is much harder to get and better than its english equivalent.

I know that, I was just pretending to be hurt since I actually did major in political science.
Re: Doctor Who [6]
Yeah but you would be happy just with the paperwork.

The general consensus on the Who forums is a huge thumbs up- most seem happily surprised after two young Doctors the BBC didnt take the easy option and repeat the formula and have went older.
Did anyone notice when he was announced and walked out he did a 1st Doctor Hartnell pose, holding and rubbing his lapels?
yeah, ok. sounds cool. he's the swearing expert right
Re: Doctor Who [6]
Is the identity of the actor really considered a spoiler? Especially since it's being trumpeted in headlines on both sides of the Atlantic?
Re: Doctor Who [6]
i dunno, but i thought since Amarië wasn't sure she wanted to know yet it would be nice to put it in spoilers.

So whats wrong with this one?
Some more on Capaldi for those who dont know any of his work already and general bits gleaned from the net-
'At 55 - the same age as William Hartnell when he was cast as the first Time Lord in 1963 - he has an impressive list of credits to his name on both film and TV.
The Glasgow-born star is the first Oscar winner to play the part after winning the Academy Award for best live action short film in 1994 for Franz Kafka's It's a Wonderful Life.
Capaldi attended the Glasgow School of Art and it was while studying there that he landed his breakout role in the 1983 drama Local Hero directed by Bill Forsyth and starring Burt Lancaster.
Capaldi has also written several TV shows, including a documentary about 500 years of Scottish portrait painting and Cricklewood Greats - a spoof about the heyday of the British film industry.
He also wrote 1993 film Soft Top Hard Shoulder - which was nominated for a Scottish film Bafta - as well as writing and directing the 2001 gangster film, Strictly Sinatra.
Capaldi's stage credits include Professor Marcus in The Ladykillers at the Liverpool Playhouse, which later transferred to the Gielgud Theatre in the West End.
A lifelong fan of Doctor Who, landing the role of the Time Lord is a dream come true for Capaldi.
The Doctor Who casting comes after a busy year for the actor, who was seen on the big screen in zombie film World War Z and in BBC Two drama series The Hour, for which he was also Bafta nominated.
He is currently filming new BBC One drama series The Musketeers, in which he plays Cardinal Richelieu and which will air next year.
He will also appear in the forthcoming Julian Assange film The Fifth Estate as Guardian editor Alan Rusbridger and Disney's Maleficent - a take on the Sleeping Beauty tale, starring Angelina Jolie.'- BBc
'Ben Stephenson, Controller, BBC Drama Commissioning added: 'We started thinking Peter Capaldi might be the right person to take on this iconic part a few months ago. But it was only when he did a secret audition at Steven's house under the cover of darkness that we knew we had our man.
'He's an extraordinarily talented actor who can seemingly turn his hand to anything. We can't wait to premiere his unique take on the Doctor on Christmas Day and we are sure he's going to become one of the all-time classic Doctors.'
Speaking about the casting of Peter, executive producer and head writer Stephen Moffat said: 'We got the 12th person around and made a home video of him being the Doctor and showed it to the relevant people, and everyone said "Yes, that's the Doctor."'
Moffat continued: 'It's an incendiary combination: one of the most talented actors of his generation is about to play the best part on television. Peter Capaldi is in the TARDIS!'- Daily Mail
'Word from our woman in the studio, the Telegraph's Catherine Gee, is that Capaldi can't stop grinning and is still happily signing autographs and shaking hands. Bless him.- Telegraph

1. he's Scottish
2. horrible shark teeth
3. He's Scottish
apart from that he is ok I guess. I was expecting someone a bit more edgy and interesting though.
If it was such a BIG secret how come he was the bookies favourite?? and
is this the last regeneration? I heard there are only 12 Doctors.
